Let me get this right. They want us to pay £25 (or £50 for Gold membership) for a site that has just three posts in its forum, who's only entry in the 'find a dealer' section is themselves, has an auction section that doesn't work and an empty list of reviews. Nah, no thanks, I think I'll stick...

    Your favourite T.V. programmes

Grand Designs - I want to do that one day. And there is a new series starting tomorrow so I count that as current. Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares - It brings across the fact that there is more to running a successful restaurant than cooking and it never fails to amaze me how people who acknowledge...

Is it just me or does Fine Woodworking actually require you to not just register but also define a screen name just to read the forums? Andrew

    You lucky, lucky......

Let me be the first to welcome you to the forums Cerbie. We really are quite a friendly bunch and I am sure others will be along in a moment as well. Interesting to hear what you say given recent threads on the difference in prices between here and the US. On a more serious note you don't say...

    when to use 110V

Thanks. That's useful. No need to go and replace all my tools with 110v quite yet then. Andrew

    when to use 110V

But what defines a building site. Obviously if I am drilling holes to put up some shelves in my lounge then I don't need 110v but what if I am renovating the whole house? Does it matter if I am actually living in it at the time? And what about a house that I own but intend to sell on when...

    Sat Navs

The TomTom One uses the Sirf-III chipset which is more sensitive. I have not had any problems with it in my Mondeo with heated windscreen. No external aerial needed. I think the x10 series may have it as well but am not sure. As far as I know the x00 series does not. Andrew

    Sat Navs

I bought the new version of the TomTom One as when it was released. I was waiting for them to release the newer maps. I must admit that I have been very impressed with it. It does navigation - period. It doesn't have bluetooth, MP3 player or any other gubbins like some of the more expensive...

    *.dwg file into Sketchup ?

Are you sure Dave? I am sure I have done just that. It's the export function that Google Sketchup lacks. Chris, Although of course, you cannot import a 2D drawing and get a 3D model. You get a 2D drawing on the ground plane which you can use as a basis for a model. I think Dave did a tutorial...

    Turning Tools

Quite agree :-) That's why I am trying to decide what to buy. If he is going to have the pleasure of using them then I want the pleasure of buying them. Beats finding presents for five nieces any day :-( Andrew

    Turning Tools

Wasn't sure whether to post this here in the the turning section. Hoping that all the turners in the group hang out here once in a while. I am looking for recommendations for some turning chisels/gouges as a Christmas present for my father. He has a Shopsmith multi-purpose machine that can be...

Don't you just know that Christmas is on the way............

Which reminds me of a story told to me by a teacher who had been teaching a class of primary kids about the birth of Christ. She had asked them to draw a scene from the story and one little boy drew a plane with four people in it. When questioned he explained that it was the flight into Egypt...

Part P and 'the real world'

Out of interest were you specifically told that by the suppliers? My reading of part F, (means of ventilation) of the building regs, particularly appendix B, suggests that it is not the case. What the regs do require is that the total area of openings is at least 1/20th of the floor area of the...

Part P and 'the real world'

Presumably a reply of 'there has been no notifiable work carried out' would be a sufficient answer, provided of course that it is true. Andrew

    Rendering a SU drawing.

Yes, you will be needing the SU2K ruby script for exporting Sketchup files in the XML format required for Kerkythea. You can get it here. Andrew

    Bankers

It does seem an odd criteria though. You could have £100,000 in your current account but only deposit £1,000 a month and they would charge you and yet would make a healthy profit on the deposited money. Yet you could have almost nothing and pay in 1,500 a month that goes straight out again and...
