    My Progress

Well now I have a chuck I can try some other things, so here are today's turnings. I think the wood is holly, trimmed from a tree in the garden last spring, it surface in the wood shed while collecting fuel for the wood burner. No finish on them, the mushrooms are straight from the...

About MDF in most retail stores

I agree that they are now expensive, hence the 10% days. They were part of the Sainsbury group, but were bought out by B&Q, not sure if they still own them as I lose track of these things. I only used them if something is need quickly, ~3miles up the road, B&Q are ~20 miles, so for the odd thing...

    The lying s.ds

I think you may have over done the meds Tom, best find a dark room and lay down for a bit, before going near anything with a sharp edge on it.

    Tool sharpening recomendations

Well a diamond stone should cut faster than an oil stone and a good one will be flat and stay flat. :D Oil stones do work and I used them for many years but have now changed to a wet grinder and ceramic stones for the final finish. I have a diamond stone that I use if only a small amount of...

    Performance Pro Shop Vac

They now are using the name MacAllister for a lot of their own brand stuff. I had a quick search of their web site and cannot see anything that is like what the thread was about. The last ones they had were a metal drum, with power take off but not soft start, in blue and yellow boxes.

    brook planes???

Hi Olie, Welcome to the forum. :D I think I have seen Brook planes in Tilgear, I have never tried one, not even held one. They were quiet cheap compared to LN or Veritas but the finish did not look as good. I am not sure were they are made, they could with a little fettling be a usable tool...

Trouble is they only have 1 at that price, when I tried to buy 12 it came up with this message: Shame as they look good casters for cast iron machines. :(

I have a new chuck for the lathe Now I know that wood turners normally use a 4 jaw chuck, but the thread on the headstock of the lathe I have is 14mm*1mm and the only chucks I could find to fit were all 3 jaw. I also have Woodturning a Foundation Course by Keith Rowley and Turning Pens and...
