Tom, Well done, nice finish on both. Show us the end grain of the box, picture of the bottom, its does look like beech but the end grain may help solve the question.

As Tom knows I have a router lathe but then that would be cheating. :roll: Tom, I think I would have dripped some thin CA glue into that crack before running the tape onto the blank. I know I have seen a how to for cutting this sort of thing but am not sure were, I will have a hunt round for...

Coat the bars with wax after you have cleaned them, should stop the glue sticking and rusting them up.

It was well received, I have another piece of oak on the lathe, I am trying to make a more ornate one this time. :shock:

But if you can pick one up for a sensible price they are a good starter lathe, no prizes for guessing what lathe I have. :roll:
