Rob Cosman has brought out his own version dovetail saw aimed (and priced ) at the premium end of the market and Lie Nielsen have introduced a panel saw to their range. Details can be found on their respective websites.

Hi Alan
Opted for 'bone'
Rob quoted shipping at $62 Cdn by air or $33 Cdn by sea. (6 days or 6 weeks)
Don't forget Her Majesty's Crooks and Extortionists' Value Added Theft and Post Office Brigandage charges on top at this end, of course.

Philly - agree, since it is shaped by hand anyway, I'd have thought a wood option would broaden the potential market. I do think Rob Lee has very effectively trail blazed the way for non traditional materials, though.

Am at West Dean on the Saturday, so if it's arrived can bring it along if interested.
Cheers

What's the idea behind the wee sticky up piece at the front end of the Lie Nielsen saw, on the top of the blade?

LOL
Sorry, Calpol. Just having a little joke with you - the saw nib is one of those woodworking mysteries. What is it for?? There are as many answers as there are dovetail router jigs...
No-one seems to have a definitive answer but there are plenty of theories - I personally believe it was an attachment for the early Veritas saw sharpening jig
Cheers
Philly :D

Just out of curiosity I went off to have a look at this saw. My first impression was how bloody ugly it was. One handle looks like it's covered in bird sh*t and the 'bone' handle looks like something straight out of a Las Vegas wedding chapel.

That said, I then saw Rob's reply in this thread and I support his venture. Good reasons for what he's done and I look forward to seeing the saw in the flesh.

I wonder what percentage of potential purchasers will be put off by the composite handle? Nice handle on the new Lie Nielsen saw though !

I think if you're not put off by the price then the materials aren't going to be a problem
