    BT what a joke

We had the lazy beggar, Openreach technically, decide it was too much hassle for him to install the f/o box in the hallway like next door - instead putting it in my daughter's bedroom - flashing lights and all! I got home and after a few threats and irate messages it was moved f.o.c They are...

    Garage security

Smartwater supply loads of warning stickers - certainly I had far more of the large ones than I needed. Maybe find someone who has bought a kit and ask for a spare sticker?

    Five favourite quotes.

My suggestions There is no situation a politician cannot make worse You cannot repeal the Laws of Mathematics, Physics or Unintended Consequences When you vote against someone or something don't expect to get what you want The money tree has died

    Safety Gloves

Who wears them in the workshop - always / sometimes / never? Issues - what do people think of issues of sepsis safety vs loss of grip and sensations? So, what do people think? Recommendations?

    240 volts into a 220 volt machine ?

I thought Europe was nearer 220v and UK nearer 240v. But to make life easier it is just called 230V. update - I just stuck a meter in my Swiss sockets - 231/232v.

    What Generator To Buy

Sound - as already said - and also the way it makes A.C. I think some are safer than others with electronics if that's likely to be an issue Length of tank lasting (assuming you do not want to get up every 2 hours for a top-up) Ease of maintenance? Fuel storage - especially the modern...

Are you thinking of splashing the cash on a jointing machine for xmas ?

That setup, with 5mm cutters, replaces the Festool LR/32 system - for some uses Sadly that piece is 800mm only - whereas the Festool basic rail is 1400mm Also, there is an extension of 1600mm to make 2400mm - but it is just that - an extension to the 800mm - so to do a 1000mm you end up with a...

Are you thinking of splashing the cash on a jointing machine for xmas ?

For the Mafell, there are 3mm as well. But remember with those cutter costings - the Mafell uses two - the Dominos only one.

    Workshop socket layout

I have always gone vertical - but behind stud walls it was easiest - with conduit that is less of an issue. Think about one or two 16A sockets in addition to 13A - some machines may require it.

    Re-keying a euro cylinder

Agree 100% - our only break-in was through one of those. Where the screw goes through the lock is thin. A vise-grip on the protruding part of lock and a quick twist and it snaps at that point - as we were told by the police (in France, of course - wouldn't expect the UK Police to bother...

    What's Happening In France?

France cannot call new Parliamentary elections until July - and Macron won't go. So I suspect Macron will use Article 60 and rule by decree for next six months. But it all stems back to the awful Mitterand Presidency - and a warning for Starmer if he is not too stupid to pay attention.

A new shop has just opened in the town centre - aimed at electricians and the highly intelligent. Its called Sparks and Mensa.

MPs vote in favour of assisted dying bill

Assisted dying, as I understand, still requires the patient to action their own death. It is not like euthanasia or the Liverpool Pathway where the actions/inactions of a medic end a life. Given many of us will have taken a pet to the vet on a one-way trip to ease its suffering, I am inclined...

    Trump tariffs & tool prices

Most western politicians are on a four or five year cycle. Xi is a dictator for life. With no elections to worry about it aids long term planning.

    Trump tariffs & tool prices

Yes - the Democrats seem to have learned the hard way the same lesson that Budweiser learned - and Walmart is hastily trying to avoid - that DEI is not a good strategy. Go woke, go broke.

    Trump tariffs & tool prices

Bolting stable doors comes to mind - we should have contained China years ago. As for OP - and LN planes - first, will any indirect tariffs have an effect on UK-USD exchange rate and does OP buy directly or from an importer. If the latter, I doubt an importer will say "whoopee, the GBP has...
