Repairing a bulge on a stag minstrel chest of drawers

We had a lot of Stag furniture in it's day and it was always sold to us as solid wood, and appeared to be so. Then I remembered that we still had one piece left, a coffee table. Clearly the wood is stained but certainly does not appear to be veneered. If it is, then they have gone to a hell of...

six week layoff ... going out of my tree!

I don't know what sort of stuff you do, but would modelling (planes, trains & automobiles) be of interest. It kept me occupied when I screwed my back for weeks on end.

5p rubber washer to over £100 to replace

I had a similar problem with rubber washers on our bathroom taps. They are rubber washers, but a size only supplied by the manufacturer. So just what is the mentality of a tap designer that thinks "There are plenty of standard rubber washers in the world, but no, I will identify one that isn't...

    Drawer slides

I’ve just done a lot of drawers for my kitchen and what I found was a lot of inconsistency in the actual runners. I found myself to be in the same position that you seem to be in and spent a frustrating amount of time trying to get these bloody runners to work, only to find that replacing the...

I just bought something. Can you guess what it is

Lovely looking car whose looks are completely destroyed by a 6’ 4” lump trying to get out of it on all fours! I begrudgingly crossed it off of my bucket list. Hope to see more pics and updates. Have fun! :D

How to insulate a shed on a budget

I found this on the Rockwool site. "ROCKWOOL insulation is moisture resistant yet vapor permeable. ... ROCKWOOL stone wool insulation does not wick water, which means that any bulk water that contacts the outer surface will drain and not be absorbed into the body of the insulation." So I'm safe?

How to insulate a shed on a budget

Why do you need a gap when using loft insulation? The reason I ask is that I used loft insulation in my shed, 20 years later I see no problems. Now I'm worried

Split from TOPIC: VIRUS WARNING/SCAM? ON MAC

Oh the irony  As I was reading this thread, on my iMac, I was redirected to the "Adobe Website" and a message telling me that my Adobe installation was out of date, and that I should click the button to update it. Yeh sure, the web address of the sender was something like...

    Christmas bonus

Extra days holiday or additional lump in their pensions? I mention the pensions because that was an option when I got a bonus. That way no tax was paid and also the employer saved the employers National Insurance so generously put that in the pension contribution as well.

    Glass cabinet doors

Yes, personally I would go toughened that size, that size big enough to accidentally put a fist through. I’ve used the picture framing things one on each side of the glass, so 4. The problem I have had with beading is where the bead is quite fine, say 5mm and getting the pins in, that’s the...

    Glass cabinet doors

How big are the panes? That will tend to determine if you use toughened or not. Anyway, I've used 4mm in the past and it's just fine. I took the view that I might as well use toughened just in case, but can be pricey. In terms of fitting I have used a couple of methods. The first is a rebate...

    new oak handrail, outside, varnish?

No expert but have had a bit of experience with using oak outside. Garage doors first, that I made about 10 years ago. The advice I received was "No, no, no don't treat them, let them silver with age". well, they are still solid but look a right mess. Silver? If they are then they are severely...

    Decking recommendations

OK, not strictly wood, but I want to install a composite deck .... so not wood at all :D I've got a quote from my local yard for a product called Millboard composite posts & joists, and Silvadec deck boards. Anyway, it's a lot of money but is apparently very good stuff. However, is there a...

    Clearance for oven?

Is the range actually 900mm? Might be a stupid question, but I have put in a "900mm" fridge freezer which was actually 895mm.
