    Appliance take-back scheme

Against better judgement I must respond to this ,as councils (and many other bodies) get maligned unneccessarily. My inlaws had an old fridge collected who are on the income you describe, and the council automatically waived the £14 pound fee (which I should add is for up to 3 items) . Further...

    Water Softener Advice

Peter that was my understanding too, but after Robs reply I did a little more research and unless you "have " a sodium medical problem or are a baby whose food is at a maximum sodium intake, the amount from a softener is negligible. Thanks for that Rob because I was considering a separate cold...

    Water Softener Advice

Well I did make the point in an earlier post in this thread that it's a shame it doesn't improve the taste of the tea :-) It is incorrect to say you cannot drink it, otherwise we wouldn't be allowed to fit a softener to taps that we have access to on a regular basis, although a non softened tap...

    Water Softener Advice

Wel I can't speak for Rob, but whenever I go away in this country and experience slippery soapy showers with one squirt of gel I always remind myself to press on with fitting my softener. Pity it can't help the way the tea tastes better in other parts of the country too! If you like scummy water...

    Water Softener Advice

Hi I am in the market for a softener too at some point. I have just had scan of the installation usage instructions and it looks to cover just about everything. I will be using mine with a megaflow so a 22mm kit will be required. I would like to know what you decide to do and where you get...

    Flattening metal plane soles.

I bought one from here some time ago they do different sizes this one is 18 x 12 x3 ebay link The glass thing can be a problem. I tried to get offcuts from lots of suppliers here and they didn't want to know as soon as I went up to 10mm it was priced to size and not cheap. Glass will flex...

    tablesaw blades

Scrit wrote Of course you didn't I know :-) this threads running fast :-) I am just keen to point out even as an amateur that there is real merit, possibly even more, in changing blades when it suits. As amateurs we should be in no hurry (wrong word??) so taking the trouble to change a blade...

    tablesaw blades

Motown wrote I am speaking as an amateur here, not as a respected professional, but I do have to say that there is a misunderstanding here of being able to rip a little slower because you are not using the "most suitable" blade for the job somehow gives you more control. There can be no arguing...

    tablesaw blades

Scrit slightly out of context, as you are quoting me as if I was replying to your post which I hadn't seen at the time...I just randomly generated it of my own free will...I think.:-) I am almost sure we kind of are thinking the same here... Alan

    tablesaw blades

Just to add further, the time taken to swap to a rip blade will be easily made up in the time it takes to cut any amount of rip stock. It's the same principle as having the right bandsaw blade for the job. If you are only doing a piece a foot long then OK but if it's a ten foot piece it's worth...

    tablesaw blades

I used to try with a general purpose in the early days, but when you've used a proper rip blade it's a "true" revalation. Then having experienced that, it allows you to consider having a finer crosscut blade, for crosscut only, which is the second revalation :-). seriously use the right blade...

    Workshop floor question

Dave S said not wanting to cause offence Dave I understand entirely, these things are subjective and relative to experience (hopefully) and not hearsay. To explain further my father built a house some twenty years ago the floors were filled with roughfill and a suspended cast concrete sub floor...

    Workshop floor question

From past experience polystyrene is not good at supporting point loading, eg if you have constant traffic through a doorway the polystyrene will eventually collapse, so if you want to use it this way I would certainly advise battening. If used in housebuilding it's best put under the concrete...

    Plane Brush

Scrit wrote Tut Tut Scrit, you are clearly slipping, there must be a H & S document to cover trying to poke your eye out on a sharp pointy thing whilst getting in close to see what the sof brushy bit is doing to those shavings. :) I suggest a mod, some sort of rubber cover for the pointy bit...

does anyone know anything about air filters

I use the vac inside the PC every few months but don't use it directly, I use a reasonably stiff but soft brush to loosen the dust on the surfaces whilst holding the vacuum nearby. I see no good reason not to do so, have done it for years. A more regular vacuum over the inlets to remove build up...
