    Workshop size question.

You are not kidding, we have had two Vauxall combo vans spontaneously combust both about half an after they were last used. My mate has got footage of his right outside his house. Fortunately a neighbour raised the alarm and he pushed it into the end of the close before it really went up. As far...

    Dakota Tormek Rip Off

John, Looking at the background of your picture I can see why you use the saw as a bench  there seems to be a bench space issue  Another thing, that picture is a set up, those clamps might not be holding anything. I think we need to see the table with the clamps at the top...

    Tormek Blackstone SB-250

Thanks Blister Does it really grind that much quicker then? I know you have already said it does, but how much quicker. Quick enough for me to go out and buy one and proclaim "I should have got one of these much sooner!" I really find the original Tormek wheel very slow indeed. Alan

    Tormek Blackstone SB-250

Blister do you have the one that fits the tormek or do you have the smaller one that fit a high speed grinder? Alan

    Aluminium Bubble Warp

I seem to recall a bit of controversy about this stuff. Along the lines of it being the best thing since sliced bread when launched. It had very high U value for low volume/thickness. I think it was then found it was the way the U value tests were done were very misleading. I'm not suggesting it...

    wildlife

It' surprising what you see when cycling. I was on a little back road near Barton broad in Norfolk just drifting off mentally when there was a sudden lunge from the verge on my left and I was nearly "taken out" by a red deer which had been snoozing until I distubed it, After I screamed and...

    Chip collector

That's high pressure low volume, not quite the same thing as High volume lowpressure. If you want to shift high volume then a lot of air trying to squeeze through little gaps in a cupboard is not going to work. Alan

    Chip collector

Karl if it in the cupboard and it's sucking air in it will need to let the air out somewhere or you'll have no suck and a lot more heat as already suggested. Alan

    a shower

DW If that is so...why is the bench to the left also dry? :D I suspect the dropleaf hasn't been exposed to weathering because it's been down, when it's been left up the protective stain is still doing it's job beading up the water. Nice idea though. Alan

    Bandsaw Upgrade Advice Needed!

There is no reason not to use beech but Lignum vitae or similar naturally oily wood would be better. If you are to use beech I would try soaking them in a light machine oil or WD40 perhaps. This has been discussed before on the forum do a search for cool block and click the search for all terms...

    Polystyrene insulation and electric wires

I dare say it can and will but that's no reason to dismiss what I said. I have seen this effect on faulty telecommunication cables made by Pirelli and it has the result of altering the PVC to a more jelly like state. Alan

    Polystyrene insulation and electric wires

A misunderstanding by your electrician, and he should know better. Polystyrene can give of a chemical that will turn pvc insulation into a jelly, it's nothing to do with the heat given off by the cable. (for reference all insulation will lower the load rating of the cable)...

power to garage and part P

Firstly I Fail to see how I am lucky... :D Secondly the same bunch of ***** ****** ******** and ***** refused me planning permission to match my garage extension to my neighbours (yes the same a**** ) because it didn't "fit in with the street scene " yet just around the corner the council...

power to garage and part P

I couldn't agree more. From experiences I've heard of the council really don't want to know about this sort of thing. My neighbour just weighed in with loads of new building work without planning permission, including loads of decking with tasteless lighting which he installed himself. It was...

    Cat 5e cable

I thiink you can get away with a few years as long as the sheathing doesn't get snagged ..and it is easy to snag some of the manufacturers cable others are a little more resilient. Yes they are not UV resistant and the sheathing is porous. All of which will degrade it and you may not notice the...

    Cat 5e cable

Just be aware that the cable you are looking at is not external use grade. It will last for quite a while but will degrade and fail eventually. External grade is considerably more expensive. Alan

    Trouble melting old solder...

Sometimes these small irons are just not up to the task. However I would suggest adding the solder that is liquifying to the stuff that isn't..sometimes it just needs the extra flux from the new to get things going. Depending on your experience with this sort of thing.... a sharp "rap" of the...
