Should I use both male / female formers when vacuum bagging?

I am about to embark on laminating some tight curves and I was wondering whether I could achieve a tighter curve with less risk of tensile failure on the outer face if I use a 2 piece mold and then vacuum bag, or will the vacuum bag provide enough support on the outer face so that I will only...

    concealed hinges for curved carcass?

I think the SOSS hinges might be the best bet. I did consider the knife hinges, but as the door is curved the door edge would protrude into the carcass when open as a result of having to mount the hinge further in from the back edge. This will reduce available shelf space. Thanks.

    concealed hinges for curved carcass?

I am planning on making a piece of furniture similar to that shown below. The only difference is that I am not planning on having fully rounded carcass ends, but 50/75mm radius corners...

    Flexiply for painted furniture?

Similar question, but I did'nt quite understand your response. I just really want to know what radius can be achieved with bendi ply. They claim 5mm flexiply has a minimum bend radius of 5cm, but I want to try and gauge from those in the know whether that is possible, as I don't want to buy 3...

    Flexiply for painted furniture?

I want to make a curved piece of furniture that is going to be sprayed white. I was going to use flexiply, but I am concerned that it will be hard work to fill the grain ? Is there an alternative to flexiply or will it be ok ? The other question I have is that I want to bend the ply around a...

My first spray / veneer project

Thanks. I used morrells water based 65% sheen pigmented white lacquer and 85% clear lacquer for the drawers. I sprayed it using my Earlex HV5000 HVLP spray station. It was my first spray attempt and I was really surprised at how easy it was to get a good finish with the Earlex

My first spray / veneer project

Thanks. I did say that to the Wife, but she insisted that we match those of the kitchen. I would have gone for a contemporary handle or slot cut out of the drawer front

My first spray / veneer project

I took the plunge and decided to get into veneering and spraying. My first project was to take a Cotswold company piece of furniture and do a bit of a transformation on it as it was looking tired. It went from looking like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/63922880@N02/5820677210/ to this...

Should I laquer top coat ?

I have just finished a kitchen drawer with Morrells 8655/421 water based white 65% sheen paint. As I have know idea of the hardness of the paint, I was wondering whether I should apply a clear lacquer top coat ? Thanks

    Filling grain after priming ?

Agreed, but said piece is being renovated. I have not heard of polyester stopper. Thanks

    Filling grain after priming ?

I think I may have confused here. I am painting the piece in question, so I am rather confused when you say "you'll see the filler and the surface will be flat instead of undulating". I assume you are talking about if I was filling to then finish with a clear finish ? I will have a look at...

    Filling grain after priming ?

I primed a piece of furniture that I intend to spray with a morrells high sheen acrylic lacquer. On close inspection I can see the timber grain and would like to fill it so that when it is finished the grain is not visible. If I ha not already primer it I would have used a car body filler...

Getting into spraying. Why did I wait so long!

If only. I have sectioned off a piece of the garage and spray in there. I have to spray with the door shut because of the breeze, but the respirator I use works well and I cannot smell anything. I am going to get a proper spray booth setup for the next project though
