I want to make a curved piece of furniture that is going to be sprayed white. I was going to use flexiply, but I am concerned that it will be hard work to fill the grain ?

Is there an alternative to flexiply or will it be ok ?

The other question I have is that I want to bend the ply around a radius of 50-75mm and I need to understand whether that is possible ?

Thanks

I've seen flexi-MDF as well. Be a lot easier painting it.

"Flexible" MDF might be all right for large radius curves, but because of the way it is made, i.e. the back of the sheet is kerfed to allow it to bend, there are certain restrictions - the radius of the bend is limited by the thickness of the sheet and the spacing of the kerfs, and sometimes the finished curve can appear as a series of flat planes (rather like fluting on a column).

For your 50 - 75mm radius curves you might consider 1.5mm birch ply (skin ply).

Wasn't all this discussed a few months ago in your "bending birch ply" and "Veneering curves" thread, shame to drag up the same answers again

If its that sideboard then I doubt you will bend anything that tight, mould the corners & intersections and use flap sheets between

I believe that what is refered to as skin ply is also called "aero ply" by some stockists. And as Woodcafts says, really good for small curves etc.

Similar question, but I did'nt quite understand your response. I just really want to know what radius can be achieved with bendi ply. They claim 5mm flexiply has a minimum bend radius of 5cm, but I want to try and gauge from those in the know whether that is possible, as I don't want to buy 3 sheets of it if I cannout achieve that.

Thanks
