    What's this spigot/pin thing?

at a guess I'd say the middle section allows the reel to spin and eases the pressure on the thread

What is your favorite American TV show?

assuming you mean House of Cards? excellent series, easily as good as the british version from the 90s, I've not seen the later series though. Twin Peaks is always high in my list of TV series, perfect balance of mainstream (frost) and offbeat (lynch) the american remake of the killing was...

    Lidl Update

do you mean, impact wrench or impact driver? I've not seen a wrench at all, but I might have to keep my eyes open, any idea what the torque is listed as?

that explains why I can't ever find them, I've been looking by the yoga mats

    Little general purpose workshop mallet

I've never used a round mallet, but my understanding is that the round surface means it is hard to miss hit the chisel, with a hexagonal head to the mallet are you not making it likely to knock at an off angle and skew the chisel? I do like the design though

    Makita drill/driver

I agree, particuarly annoying when using a variety of different drills, it would be nice if the slip clutch was marked with a torque rating, so if you dial it to 30 it will slip at 30nm, and 30 is 30 on all drills, also would be a quick way of telling how powerful a drill is. Can't see it...

    Makita drill/driver

i pretty much always use the clutch, I see no need to risk damaging the screw or the work

    Makita drill/driver

confused by the screwing backwards business, I've done it, but always assumed it just meant I didn't have my torque set high enough. Didn't realise it was a technique

    Makita drill/driver

whenever possible I try and have 2 drills or a drill and a driver to get around this situation (also to save time changing bits)

    Tape measure

I've normally used a 3 metre tape day to day (will often need more than 2 metres but rarely more than 3, in which case a grab something bigger) I was suprised when I looked at toolstation and screwfix that 3m is not a common size at all (I know there are quite a few options on amazon)

    screwdriver bit set

I bought a bahco set for someone a while ago, about £9 at the time, they seem pretty good. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bahco-59-S31B-Piece-Orange/dp/B06XTXB576/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=bahco+screwdriver+bits&qid=1610134809&sr=8-2 that said I bought an impact rated milwaukee shockwave set...

How would you rate the UK's handling of this pandemic?

the fact that we have one of the highest deaths / cases per capita can only lead to the conclusion that we have done terribly. At every stage we've been too slow to act, if we had locked down quicker and harder, closed borders etc etc, we could have reduced the lengths of the lockdowns, reduced...

Number of polyurethane coats before I can polish?

I would do 4, sand with a fine grit and see how you get on, you can always put more coats

Central Heating / Hot Water Issues

no real plumbing knowledge so this may be a red herring, but I'm wondering if when you run a bath you are taking a lot of water all at once (if not you are possibly doing it wrong!) but when you run a shower you are taking a little bit from the tank, and the tank is then refilling with cold...

    Tape measure

personally I have always got by with any cheap and cheerful measure that comes to hand, however I've always been under the impression that fatmax (as opposed to the lower end Stanley) are the gold standard
