7th CARLTON SCROOP Vintage Handtool Extravaganza 12 Oct 2024

Even further away for me, which is probably a good thing, as I can't be tempted. :giggle: However, when I was teenager, it would only have been a bike ride away. It always brings a smile to my face , hearing these quaint, old. Lincolnshire village names mentioned. It brings to mind the likes...

I wonder if any language pedant, ever wrote a good book. Except, maybe one on grammar and punctuation. :giggle:

    Box sash windows

Wedges and hide glue on the sliding sashes. but the boxes would just have been nailed with wedges into the sill. However, stiffening blocks would have been glued in position, to reinforce the top of the box frame.

Folkstone Fixings (FFX) placed into Administration

My goodness! I've dealt with these guys quite a few times in the past. They were always a pleasure to deal with. Is this the beginning of the "big trees" starting to fall in the forest? It remains to be seen who else will follow.

    Box sash windows

I would echo @Jacob and say W B McKay The section on Joinery is available as a separate book. The relevant bit is Chapter 10, on Cased Frame Windows.

    A wooden bandsaw ... scary ...

I think that if one doesn't have the funds, but can find the time. then this is a way to have something that one otherwise could not afford . Also, one gets the enjoyment from the build. Though I would probably make it out of metal. :giggle:

    Exploding Pagers - Lebanon

What ! ... a bunch of " Old Gits" on a forum successfully sorting out all the intractable problems of the world, Who could have thought that was even possible? :ROFLMAO:

    No Fault Evictions

Surely the logic is that those flats will be purchased and occupied. Those that have purchased them, will in turn vacate rental properties, that can be rented by others? The properties themselves will not disappear into an abyss... Unless I am missing something fundamental here ?

    A wooden bandsaw ... scary ...

I remember back in the1970's visiting a sawmill in West Wales. As well as the main, circular saw being driven by a water wheel there was also a bandsaw, most of whose components were wood.

    Exploding Pagers - Lebanon

Conflict, on and off , has been a part of this regions, history for over 2000, years. It isn't going to go away overnight. The unilateral setting up of a Jewish state through conflict has led to the constant need to defend the borders, if it is to continue to survive.. What has to change is...

    Gotten

" Ill gotten gains" might be the only context in which we still might use it. An American college tutor of mine used to use it all the time, and he hailed from New York. But others I have known rarely if ever used it .Maybe because their ancestors arrived later than the Pilgrim Fathers. :giggle:

Removing sealant between bathroom tiles and ceiling

If it is silicone then you can buy a solvent remover. Good if you need to protect surfaces. Also, there is an abundance of silicone removing tools out there. :giggle:

    Metal shed for workshop?

I remember when house hunting a few years ago, visiting a property with an adjacent metal workshop. On the hot summers day I visited it was unbearable inside. So, insulation is a must.

Yes .. the simpler the better. Though it does depend on what one is writing and who the audience is. Otherwise, we wouldn't have have the need for so many synonyms in the English language and would all speak and write exactly the same,

That does make me cringe. What's wrong with "from the outset"?

    Found in the shed

In a similar vein I saw a Victorian coachman's knife advertised on the internet recently. It was a glorious thing with antler knife scales and a tamper for ones pipe . The only downside was that the vendor wanted over £1000 for it :ROFLMAO:
