Accurate drill-sharpening jig for Sorby Pro-edge?

Those are actually ok used with a bench grinder. But little use for anything below about 4-5mm or so as I recall. Haven't used one for years. Drill doctor is good once you get the hang of it.

    US Election November 5th

I am reminded of a reporter conducting interviews with workers leaving one of the massive Detroit car plants when the candidates were Reagan and Carter. One guy when asked who he thought was the better candidate said "what choice do we have, a movie star and a bum".

    What's this, chaps?

I think in the old days it was more commonly sourced from the floors of "outhouses". The Salt Petre men were even known to dig up the floors of churches. Apparently because people were known to relieve themselves on the floor during a long and boring sermon. Guano is also a good source and was...

A statement that neatly covers the gulf between theory and reality :-)

    For Sale Clarke model cs6-9

Exactly the same as my warco one, just different paint ! The very flimsy bracket that holds the table up is the only thing I would criticise on it. Made a much thicker replacement for mine. Really useful machine.

Never tried using meths, is the colour not an issue?

    Workshop inside roof

Handy as well if you are putting a ceiling under it, to prevent them falling out on your head at a critical moment :-)

    Advice needed

Marigolds are good for getting a good grip on it, I am with the probably unscrews group.

    Keir Starmer

You could argue that the overarching aim was to try and put and end to hundreds of years of violence, and try and bring a more normal existence to the population. In that context the removal of the visible security measures and border posts was a very significant, if perhaps symbolic gesture. A...

Garden project preparation for garden room

Always amazes me how much material you can have to get rid of to make an area that looks "pretty flat" to the naked eye genuinely level. Looking good.

    Thoughts on this furniture repair

I use it all the time. Only issue is that, as far as I'm aware, it only comes in a quick setting formula so it starts to go off in a few minutes.

    Wadkin ags 10 Lock Nut

Our friends over the pond are still imperial, so you can buy the tools to do it, but a fair old price for a one off, especially when you add shipping. I went down the rabbit hole of making my own in HSS. In hindsight I should really have got the nearest metric size tipped tool, which are not too...

    Wadkin ags 10 Lock Nut

To be fair once I had made the tool actually cutting the thread was pretty straightforward. Fine tuning the tool wasn't! Very difficult to get the shape just right so it doesn't bind as you get further into the cut. What I ended up with was something very like a parting off tool but shallower...

Latest thing you have printed / machined / cut

Jewellers saw definitely, but I would probably make it just a smidge too long and use a stone on the ends. You will struggle to get perfect ends just from the saw. The other option is to solder it together just a tad too small. If you then put it vertically on a flat surface and use a wallpaper...

    Thoughts on this furniture repair

As I say I have done similar but by wrapping the actual piece in clingfilm and then using car body filler to make a sizeable lump in the appropriate place on the side. It looks to be just big enough. This can then be shaped as necessary to get the clamp to work in the right direction. You can...

Good selection of stuff there. You are going to have fun. Don't know if you have used UB stuff their degreaser is really good. If you need change wheels there is a guy on e bay who custom makes delrin ones, very good. Having at least one in the train helps quieten it down a bit, and is a...

Lovely work. Can't get near that level. Of course I blame cheapie Sheppach saw. Would love to have a Hegner, but then would have no excuse for my own ineptitude :-)

    Wadkin ags 10 Lock Nut

I agree square threads are a PITA. I did one on an eight inch machine vice a while ago and ended up making my own tool, based on careful measurement of the male thread. Worth it to me as I picked up the vice for very little and it was in good condition apart from the nut being worn out. But if...
