The Wrights brothers?? Workspace the size of a hangar, I'll bet ;)

When did the world go mad for Festool?

Yep, 30-odd Kg, half as much again as a Kapex; not an issue if you don't need to cart it about, big, big issue if you do. Portability and dust extraction were the main buying points for me. I'd never used lasers before, thought they were a bit of a gimmick - I don't now, wouldn't be without...

When did the world go mad for Festool?

Yep, Rotex are totally different animals from regular RO sanders - try and get a demo. Perhaps you're missing a precision hole drilled MDF worktop and a clamping frame? ;) Oh, and a guiderail that drops down to make perfect right-angle cuts, then lifts up out of the way when you don't need it...

    Woodworking ebooks - would you?

It's what they call the 'addressable market' Steve; how many people would be interested in a woodworking book at all, whether print or digital, at any price? Or a tenoning jig, come to that. Probably not that many, sadly. Pete

Steve's workshop - Painting the outside walls

Fluorescent tubes in the workshop Steve? The light emitted from florries is of continually changing intensity and colour so best to keep shutter speeds below 1/50th sec (50Hz, AC waveforms, all that...) for consistent results. In the early days of digital photography even the light output from...

eBooks every time for me - but then I don't really read woodworking books :?

When did the world go mad for Festool?

Yes, Festool are good at marketing (not actually a crime, btw) but unless the tools were decent they’d never have gone anywhere. And as Random Orbital Bob eloquently said, they’re also much more accessible than they were (as are, say, Mafell, Hilti, et al) and are cheaper than they used to be...

Hey Chris. Thanks, but DW, I saw it on FOG, just have other things on my mind right now :? Cheers, Pete

    14XX at Dartington Devon

Very nice. I was in Dartington over the bank holiday weekend; my sis-in-law has an apartment in the old mill at Staverton so we were very familiar with the comings and goings of the trains by the end of the weekend ;) Lovely part of the country, like a giant Centre Parcs with bike trails and...

    router table T track

As Roughcut says above, the pack of 4 from Rutlands brings the price down considerably - £35, or 18p/inch if you will. Not sure that buying from the US would save you anything (certainly not time) unless you're buying in volume tbh. Let us know the outcome.

    iphone expertise required....

Couple of things; 1/ agree it's likely to be the battery, but 2/ try plugging it into a computer and seeing what happens - if iTunes doesn't come up, it's possible you might have to restore it from a backup. Also try putting the phone into recovery mode - details here. !!NB: All the above...

    Marketing advice

Oh, absolutely. I have no problem with the people who bear the bulk of the overhead adding a decent mark-up (and if anyone doubts that, take a look into the rents, rates and staffing costs of even the smallest high street shop), it's simply a cost that needs to be factored in before you embark...

    Marketing advice

In my experience, 50% + VAT before the customer sees it, i.e. if I want £200, the customer needs to be paying £480 in the 'emporium'; killed my (admittedly vague) idea stone dead... Pete

Festool Domino will it cut a 6mmx47mm slot?

Do they have to be *exactly* 47mm wide? Domino with a 6mm cutter on the mid-setting makes a 25 x 6mm mortice - figure out a way to register two side-by-side and you'll have something pretty close, if 'pretty close' is good enough. This guide shows relevant slot sizes for each cutter, at each...

    Marketing advice

The trouble with selling to artsy/crafty emporia is that they want a decent chunk of the sale price, at least round here. No harm in making enquiries of course, but don't be shocked if the item you want £30 from sells at £70 by the time they've added their margin and VAT - or worse, they want to...

    portable router tables

Well, not to dissuade you from buying new tools if that's what you want, but there are a wide variety of options if you just want a router table that can be knocked down and stored when not in use - just Google 'knock down' or 'fold up' router table. Alternatively, if you have space for a...

    portable router tables

Haven't used one and don't have the need, but by all accounts the Compact Modular System approaches static-machinery levels of accuracy and dust collection in a portable. The system revolves around a base table, with inserts for Festool's plunge saws, routers and jigsaw, with associated dust...
