Might be of interest to railway enthusiasts here.
A digital painting, the location is Dartington Devon, and the railway now privatised from Totnes to Buckfastleigh. A push and pull type locomotive. Hand painted on the computer without any copying.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but how do you do that ? What sort of input device are you using ?
Every time I try to draw something freehand (i.e., not diagramatic) on a computer it comes out looking like a 5 year old could do better.

Thank you! Another little cracker.
I'd be chuff chuff chuffed, if I could do that!
Regards Rodders

PS How's the leg coming on?

I use a Wacom tablet & stylus (small one) the stylus is like a thick biro with a small point and you literally draw and paint on the tablet watching only the monitor. In addition of course there are (which you need) painting apps. I use Corel painter X5 (not cheap, but a retirement version) available from Corel 30 say free trial. Its no use imo without a tablet/stylus, there are cheaper versions from around £30 but I never use a mouse now for any computer work. Trying to do serious painting without stylus would possible look like a 5 year olds painting.
For a computer there is a freebie named Art Rage 4.5 with printing restrictions and it is also very good with lots of free professional tutorials as well.
( I have not succeeded paionting on an Ipad, because I do not have a pressure stylus)
If interested I will sort out the links.
To get you on the way many of the painting programs have a trace/copy option to trace a photograph and then do a paint job, that could be the way to get going, nothing wrong with tracing all famous artists have done it.

Very nice. I was in Dartington over the bank holiday weekend; my sis-in-law has an apartment in the old mill at Staverton so we were very familiar with the comings and goings of the trains by the end of the weekend ;) Lovely part of the country, like a giant Centre Parcs with bike trails and walks everywhere!

Cheers, Pete
