MFT hinge system storage or not

You’re genuinely only one of two people I know of in Britain who does this.** MFTs are generally too big and awkward for most people to take to site - hence the Tim Wilmott MFTC, Festool MW1000 etc… 🤷‍♂️ **Unless you’re secretly John from EnfieldRefurbs, in which case it’s still just the one…

MFT hinge system storage or not

The Benchdogs quad hinge is a little different to most Roy, as it attaches to the surface of an MFT top, rather than the front t-slot or extrusion. This makes it appealing to anyone doing site work as it will fit the ‘MFT slab’ type of tops. It’s not the kind of work I do (anymore) but I’d...

    Festool Exoskeleton

Festool wouldn’t lend me the time of day, even if I promised to dedicate an hour-long special to it! 😂

    MFT sacrificial top

One man’s offcut is another’s workpiece Roy! I made a Mondrian-style table where some of the pieces weren’t much more than 19mm cubes; these pieces were then glued together stained-glass-window style, to make the whole, so any tiny discrepancies were magnified. So, bottom line is that I’m...

    MFT sacrificial top

Well, as I say in this vid Roy, I feel I’ve pretty much reached the limits of what I can do with the MFT/tracksaw/mitresaw with small workpieces, and I expect to be doing more of those. The table saws I had previously weren’t really worth a damn - certainly in terms of precision and...

What have I done wrong? Carcass not square

And you shouldn’t adopt commercial practices, because…??🤷‍♂️ And do they sit between the sides Jacob, or on top of them? I’ve never asked - and I know from what you’ve posted here that you’re a big fan of the traditional - but how much commercial cabinetry experience with sheet materials do you...

What have I done wrong? Carcass not square

Thank you. I’ve genuinely never ‘squared’ a cabinet; if there’s ever any slight discrepancy, then adding the back to the cabinet squares it up. I’ve never used the ‘5 cut method’ for checking for square. Things are square, not square, or square enough. Which are yours? 🤷‍♂️ edited to say thank...

What have I done wrong? Carcass not square

In commercial cabinetry, the top and base almost always sit between the sides. If you doubt that, head into your kitchen (or someone else’s (or B&Q/ Wickes etc…) showroom and take a look. 👍

Festool saw with 3rd party track

The Tracksaw Workshop playlist has everything related to plunge saws and guiderails and there’s a specific video on rail compatibility here Long and short of it is that all saws work on Festool-pattern guiderails as it’s the defacto standard having been patented first, but they don’t...

Air Nailers Or Electric nail guns?

I have the cordless 16g Ryobi nailer and the narrow crown stapler, which is similar in size & weight to the 18g nailer. The 16g nailer in comparison Is a big lump, heavy and slow to use and I was always having issues with it. Switching to a 5 Ah battery made a huge difference to the usability...

    Another domino thread

Just as easy to butt the Domino up against the rail tbh.

    Another domino thread

I use the domiplate for largely that reason, but if you're not fanatical about centring the mortice then a piece of ply or MDF attached to the base does much the same job. As Roy kindly points out, I did a set of three videos covering my domino over a decade of professional use. Still going...

Peanut 2 Full or New Mini Jig?? WWYB?

As I said before, I don’t know if the domino function has been applied to the full-size carcass jig - I believe it requires a some additional machining, but I’m sure IF would be happy to advise if you contacted them. I know it works with dowels as it uses similar drilling inserts to the MiniJig...

No sliding hook on Hultafors Talmeter tape measure

Yes, the hooks are exceptionally thin spring steel - sub-mm from memory but I’d have to check to say exactly how sub - so the difference in measurement is tiny if you were to use them in the way the video suggests. I tend to use mine as @Derek Cohen (Perth Oz) says, for internal measurements I...

Peanut 2 Full or New Mini Jig?? WWYB?

The MiniJig has reference pins - like the Mafell doweller and the Domino - that reference the jig of the edge of the workpiece, so in practice it isn't particularly challenging. I'm no fan of the Tenso - the non-marking connector - and when I made a carcass with both the Tenso and the Peanut 2...

Peanut 2 Full or New Mini Jig?? WWYB?

The difference between the original Peanut jig and the MiniJig is pretty straightforward; the big jig is for carcasses ie you set the positions of the fittings using the inserts, clamp the jig down and you can cut your slots across the width of the carcass, whereas the MiniJig is a ‘one slot at...

    Sold FESTOOL OF 1400 EBQ-PLUS ROUTER (1/2")

Now you’re just giving away the plot! 🤷‍♂️ Don’t really ‘get’ the shaper origin; great for routing logos into floors, otherwise I don’t know what I’d do with it. The guys I know who have them really like them though. 🤷‍♂️👍
