    Pen turning Mandrel

Thanks for that. I will be ordering a 1MT mandrel and stuff from CS Crafts and like you say "see how" I get on.

    Pen turning Mandrel

It has a turning capacity of a stated 457mm and a turning diameter of 305mm, I looks like most pen kits use a 7mm drill bit. Any suggestions?

    Pen turning Mandrel

Hi Phil I think it will be the 1MT mandrel just so I can get on and have a go. Next job, find some pen kits etc. Thanks again

    Pen turning Mandrel

Thanks Robbo That is exactly what I need. I decided to NOT get the bits from several different places as I didn't really know what I needed. I consequently went straight to Axminster and told them my dilemma. They suggested their starter kit, assuring me the adaptor was readily available...

    Pen turning Mandrel

I tried Westcountry and they send the wrong one so I called them to explain again and they tell me there is no such thing. I asked axminster who say the same but that I should ask Charmwood who also say the same thing. Its actually an expander rather than a reducer that's needed.

It's the other ways around Phil. 1MT headstock. 2MT tailstock.

Search bar always blocked by adverts

I've blocked ads in preferences and it's made no difference. Ads still show up and get in the way. It's no good suggesting membership and "you can therefore block ads@ if it doesn't work. Or am I doing something wrong or have misunderstood?

    Pen turning Mandrel

Pardon my ignorance but is that to convert my existing 1MT to 2MT and therefore buy a 2MT mandrel or just get a 1MT mandrel now and get the new sleeve when I have a new 2MT lathe?

    Pen turning Mandrel

Hi Guys. I have a dilemma about pen mandrels. I want to have a go at pen turning. I am totally new to turning and have acquired a second-hand lathe with 1mt head stock and 2mt tail stock. It's a first lathe so if/when I get into it I will probably get a better/new (2mt?) lathe. My question...

Passing Cyclists in UK with a car Genuine help question

Are people really in so desperate a hurry? Can we not live and let live? If we all took a chill pill we might last a bit longer. I think of the people in such as Ukraine who would be happy to just survive. Maybe we all ought to retake a driving test every 5 years. It would be interesting to...

    Men Sheds!

I only joined this forum a couple of months ago because I have retired and thought I might have a go at wood turning. I emailed a few people near to me (Barnsley) but they either haven't had time or didn't want to reply. I was just looking for someone to help me get started with a few pointers...

All new to me. Just joined today.

I'd like to thank everyone for their help. I've found (and purchased) a second hand variable speed draper for £250 with a 2" 4 jaw chuck and various jaws which I'll have to find out about - some with threads inside and out. It'll do me for now until I see how I get on. When my shed is built...

    Axminster AW355WL Lathe.

I was thinking of a AC355wl on ebay but can't see that it's running. Now I'm doubtful about making the purchase. The bed looks rusty etc but I thought it would clean up.

Help appreciated with switching to LED downlights!

I had exactly the same problem with MR16's so changed all in the kitchen for GU10. Just turn off the power. pull out the wiring back to the 1.5mm (or 1mm) and it's connector, wire the new GU10 lamp holder to the connector and fit you dimmable GU10 LED's. Turn the power back on. Actually, mine...

    Lumberjack variable electronic speed lathe

Thanks sneggysteve. Unfortunately I'd have to have it delivered as I no longer drive.

    Lumberjack variable electronic speed lathe

Does anyone know anything about this beginner lathe? Is it worth me getting for a first lathe to have a go? Apparently it only comes with a one year warranty. My other and preferred option would be the Axi aw355wl but it's £650.
