The channel is scrambled or not available, Humax Recorder

If it's a fox t2, then install the custom firmware that decodes the recordings as it make them. I don't know if this will cure your problem, but the custom firmware does lots of other useful stuff as well. Just another thought, make sure that the cooling fan / vents aren't furred up. Easy to...

Is it worth buying premium tools if you don't use them enough ? Metabo grinder.

Sounds like the one I bought for the same price about 25 years back. It's not quite as "nice", bit more noisy, and vibraty, as the better ones I've got, but it keeps working.

    mortise chisel for cordless drill

It's like a lot of the stuff you see on YouTube videos. A load of complete and utter.

    What is this thing?

Wonder if it's not a standard gas strut with a fabricated cover over it for some reason?

    Wood id.

Colour and sapwood tends to make me agree that it's yew. As said. Also as said wear a mask. there's always dust with pretty well any woodworking process. I'm allergic to wood dust now. Had to pretty well pack in woodworking some time back.

    What is this thing?

Stupid question I will guess, but don't the company supply spares? If it's "just" acting as a spring, and doesn't any longer, then I'd suspect it's some kind of gas strut. Never seen anything quite like it though. Custom made part?

Would you buy a grade 2 listed cottage?

Basically I don't want anything that means any more contact with the clipboard carriers at the council than is absolutely necessary. Just asking about some planning for a granny annexe here a few years back was a nightmare. Three different people. Three different opinions. A visit to "Cosy Nook"...

    genius simple idea

"Work smart, not hard" reminds me a bit of the old fashioned way of making steel sheet, where it was passed back from one side of the rolls to the other by hand.

Folkstone Fixings (FFX) placed into Administration

I was talking to a bloke in a local town with a little record shop. Must have been 15 years back. He was telling me what the costs of running the place were, and it was ridiculous back then. Can't remember now, but it was thousands in rent, more in business rates, and a hefty chunk for...

    H O Studley tool chest

It's a beautiful chest, and a credit to Mr Studley. Would I want such a chest for actually working with? No thanks.

Would you buy a grade 2 listed cottage?

Quaint cottages tend to be a money pit. I've been there. Quaint cottages that are listed tend to be a money chasm. I've got at least one friend. . . So the answer to "would you buy a listed cottage is, "no". Not unless that is you have very deep pockets, or just fairly capacious pockets and the...

    New Diesel & Petrol Ban

They all do so many U turns they end up doing doughnuts. Sick of the lot of 'em.

Folkstone Fixings (FFX) placed into Administration

50 years ago, as a young chap, I lived in a medium sized Midlands town. If you wanted anything more specialist than a Phillips screwdriver, at most places you would be greeted, as you say, with a sharp intake of breath, followed by "About a month's delivery" and usually a huge price. We used to...

The trouble is that it's like "The Borg" "You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile" Too many people use them already, and they're too big to stop now I should think..

Homemade modified metal to wood lathe?

Well I can remember the article. probably late 80s, early 90s, and probably in "The Woodworker" IIRC. The only real part I can remember was that they had removed all the gearbox from the head, and had I think fitted a smaller single phase motor. There was some talk about how the head bearings...

    Tapping (die-ing) helper

Oh yes, I was having trouble getting some new split dies started. They were a cheap set. The Presto ones start easily. I remember thinking with the old (old!) set I've got that being solid dies, they're more like die nuts than thread cutting dies. Still as I say they're handy for cleaning up old...

    Tapping (die-ing) helper

Printed plastic is surprisingly tough, especially if you use one of the tougher plastics. Even PLA isn't bad, and PETG is even better. Useful link that thanks. I've not long bought some Presto dies though. The cheap set I've had for ages were difficult to start, and not adjustable. Relegated to...

    Tapping (die-ing) helper

Me thinking aloud more than a criticism. I'm a big fan of 3D printing tools like this. As long as they work it's a win. 👍

Needing Advice Please - Circular Saw

If you're going to use a table saw, and haven't, then you could do worse than follow the advice laid out here for a start. https://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/wis16.pdf Understand the rejection forces, and the reason for them. It's not all about the obvious dangers. Preferably get yourself on a course.

    Tapping (die-ing) helper

If it works, then it works, but I reckon it'd be better with the die holder clamping into the guide, otherwise it might twist.
