What accuracy from an EB HC260 planer/thicknesser.

I have recently bought a used machine & got great advice from Hemsby: eb-hc260m-planer-thicknesser-set-up-manual-request-t93557.html Once I got the dial indicator & holding tool (expensive but very well made) I found I had a greater difference than you have so I shimmed the drive side of the...

    cold frame

I made one for myself last month & used these on the top edge so I could easily take the lids (?), flaps (?) off completely as I had no way of keeping them lifted up high enough.. (the plants need very gradual acclimatisation so taking the lids off is the last stage before they go outside)...

    Replacing lathe motor and controller

Result !...why can't all suppliers be that helpful ?. Where did you go for a pulley ? (& as for my suggestions for your old motor I was being REALLY thick there... the pcb inverts the AC voltage to DC.. dehr.. so plugging it in wouldn't have been fun for you. That's embarrassing).

    Replacing lathe motor and controller

I was upgrading an ML4 with pulleys... I got a new motor as I was looking to buy some type of speed controller & they were cheap & made more sense having a 3ph one.. just annoyed I got it on a whim when collecting the inverter instead of thinking more about it & getting the 4 pole model. Your...

    Replacing lathe motor and controller

Hello Coley, Have you tried replacing the brushes or running the motor separate from the pcb to diagnose the fault ? If you want to upgrade your lathe I would recommend https://inverterdrive.com/ I just replaced my 70yr old motor like for like without thinking (3/4 HP, 2pole ?) as I wanted...

my first spatula made from OAK

No need to apologise Phil, no offence was taken. We must be quite similar in that respect.. perhaps a life in catering has this affect. Off Topic - sorry OP. I just found this though re: Uni study on chopping boards (as what you said about glass & stainless steel really surprised me). " We...

my first spatula made from OAK

Erm.. that is not true. It is mandatory in catering to have colour coded boards for different food groups to help prevent cross contamination. They also should be replaced once badly scored. If you put cooked meat on top of raw meat juice then the surface you are using won't make that cooked...

    HSE moan

It's the same in the catering industry.. those who comply with the Environmental Health Officer will get more stringent demands made of them about date labelling & temperature record keeping etc.. but the f&^%r down the road who has poorly & dangerously cobbled together a gas chargrill, has had...

    Your first timber yard visit

    I need help (yet again)

How about blind wedged mortice & tennons ? You'll just need to cut slots in the tennons & make some wedges. If the joints are slack in the cheeks then pack them out with slivers. However they join teak outdoor furniture works. I know someone who has some from the early 80's that is still in...

Fitting a leg vice. Any advice appreciated.

I know exactly what you mean about posting pics of your work.. & of getting into something else. I sometimes wish I could say no. Perhaps ask on the metalwork forum for help. It isn't a big job (if I have done it then anyone with the machinery can). My lathe isn't set up yet & won't accept a...

Fitting a leg vice. Any advice appreciated.

Hi Chris.. do you know anyone with a metalwork lathe? If so it should take you 1/2 hr 45mins to turn down the lead screw & mount the handwheel yourself. Be careful, it might just take you down another path. Any photo's? Togs

    Wolf Bench Grinder, Restoration help

If you have other portable appliances as part of your job/business then go on yell & find a local tester & get all of them done.. I am not sure that the grinder would put someone off by itself but only doing 1 appliance would not be economical to do. Electricians often don't deviate from the bog...

    Which steels to stock ?

Thanks very much Gents, I can now go back into the metal shop with some confidence. Not looking clueless will be very nice. I hadn't thought about getting hex section.. or engineering plastics. Hopefully I will be posting pics of my new metalwork area complete with slightly upgraded ML4 very...
