    Improved hand tool myth.

I'm not sure why my post was quoted by you, I don't see the connection between my post and yours? An accurately made plane will improve all planing situations, the thickness of the timber is irrelevant, however, the different methods used to plane very thin and thick stock is relevant.

    Improved hand tool myth.

Hi Derek, I agree, undoubtedly David Charlesworth proved this, however, out of the box, a new veritas or Lie Nielsen would be better than a new or indeed vintage un-tuned plane, a definite improvement in my opinion.

    Improved hand tool myth.

If you put a new Stanley plane next to a new Lie Nielsen or Veritas plane, I think you'd see vast improvements, better engineering and superior ductile steel in their construction, the blades or irons are massively improved, again superior steels are used and they are more accurately...

    Saw blade

I think I would contact Shane Skelton to see if he would replace the blade, but mending saws isn't my thing, using them is.

In need of a dovetail saw, a saw file and the setting tool

I'd buy a Veritas dovetail saw Bahco Hand Saws - Norfolk Saw Services A brilliant saw for a relatively cheap price, your dovetails will immediately improve with this saw, keep just for dovetailing and it won't want any attention for a long time. Regards Mark

    New company, new career

Advertise, advertise, advertise and then advertise some more, you've got nothing without customers. I've been self employed for 30 odd years, it's the best advice I received. Good luck.

How do I purchase wood from a Sawmill

Here is what I do and suspect many other people do too. First you need to decide what oak you want, the most commonly available are American White oak and European oak, it may come in different grades, don't worry about this yet. Write an email to your supplier as my example below. Would you...

So it's back: Britain's Best Woodworker

I watched the second episode last night, the part where they had to make rose's from shavings, looked and sounded like their planes were blunt, some of them had never used a plane before, highlights the state of our education system I suppose.

    Shoulder planes, which one?

I've got both the large and medium Veritas shoulder planes, the large one will do all the work of both sizes, the medium is not really necessary. Whichever one you buy the key to getting it to work properly is to lap the sole on a flat surface with the blade set in it at working tension but...
