    Problem with chuck runout

A bit late to the party and haven't read every post but reading Bertterbo's opening posts etc my immediate thought were that the Morse taper in the spindle is at an angle to the spindle axis ? If tis is so the mouth of the taper or the arbor which is ver close shows little runout but when you...

    Oil can, non leak!

Plus one for Reilang oil cans -- they just "work" and mine have never leaked, also work when inverted. Another plus if you have the facilities and the need you can make special nozzles to suit whatever you need

    Kity Bestcombi 2000 Planer Fence

Hi thanks for the reply and if you can take some pics that will be very helpful, I figured it must be bent [was like than when I bought it S/H] but to me I would have expected the spindle to bend rather than the L bracket which is quite substantial . Re the fence, the length if the guide plate...

    Kity Bestcombi 2000 Planer Fence

HI I need some info regarding the bracket that holds the planer guard, mine appears to be bent but it functions reasonably OK but where it seems to be bent logic says it would not bend there being not the weakest point however it also seems unlikely that it would be made like that ...

    Grrrrrrrrrrr....lla glue

I had the same problem with Gorilla glue ! However I contacted the “help line” and they advised you can resurrect it by warming the bottle in very hot water, I did so and it worked. Not really too happy with the product and if I was going to use it I would buy the smallest that would do the job !

Getting paid to work on your own home

Setch , only one answer here— speak to your accountant, that’s what you pay them for ! If you don’t have one get one it’s the best money you will spend running your business. I was self employed for 40 + years and our accountant was worth every penny,

Speciality Timber Lumber store in Keighley, England

I was at British Hardwoods yesterday buying some Oak, excellent outfit ! NOTE — best to call before travelling to make sure they have what you want, they don’t stockpile standard cut timber, even though it’s on their web site you need to order it in advance. There is however a very useful “off...

    Anchracite Walls for a workshop

Could not think of anything worse than black !! As many have said a light colour is best, it reflects light. My choice would be light grey or buff I recall being told that most industrial Machinery was painted either grey, blue or green with red on danger areas, the reasons being they are...

    Changing shower pull switch

John a wise decision, I too have a rental property and although “competent “ to do such a small job I do not ! Not worth the risk, far better to bite the bullet and pay a certified Pro !

    aluminium welding advice request

Stan, Bob is correct you are soldering and I’m not familiar with the torch you are using but it sounds as though it is not powerful enough. I have used aluminium solder successfully, it was one of the many kits sold in ME fraternity see Chronos Durafix Easyweld Aluminium Welding , Brazing &...

    Shed roof

Instead of felt I would use this corrugated material Onduline Black Bitumen Corrugated Roof Sheet - 950mm x 2000mm x 3mm | Wickes.co.uk It will outlast felt several times over and not expensive, you could use it in place of wood and felt or use the word as well for additional support but on...

Parbynat my first router was an Elu MOF96, 1/4” been very pleased with it, however last year I/we had a need for a larger more powerful machine, need ? well it was the excuse needed to buy a 1/2 router!! Mortising attachments?

Never used a bench drill attachment but see no reason it would not work providing its a reasonable quality machine, some 50 years ago I used a Bridges drill in a stand to “rout” out the stair treads on a staircase, needs must at the time and it worked just fine, also drilled out the mortises in...

10mm holes in 8mm mild steel

Have a look at this clamp Axminster Drill Clamps a very useful tool instead of or in addition to a vice. One of my most used tools now some 50 years old ! As far as drilling it’s pretty much all been said, either use a pilot hole or thin the point and drill straight through with a HSS 10mm...

Making holes in dovetail saw blade for handle, high carbon alloy

I think the first thing is to contact the manufacturer and ask their advice, otherwise assuming the top blade is your original? I would use this as a pattern to make a simple drill jig that locates on the LH & Top edges of the blade, use say aluminium or WHY drill though the original blade...

Question on order for tapping thread

Simon, Bod is correct but just do you know there are also sets of “serial” taps. These ere much the same except the taper and second taps are a smaller diameter thus cutting progressively deeper threads and the third or plug tap must be used for the final thread. Don’t forget to use a...
