    Table mounting Makita Router

Hmm ! Just looking at my RP2301F today with a view to mounting it on a table, there is zip info in the manual and unlike my Elu 1/4" router no tapped holes in the base for mounting screws ? Just started looking 5 mins ago so will keep hunting and watch this thread !

Work so hard you cripple yourself

Artie 18kg is nowhere near a cwt ! 1cwt = 50.80kg 18kg = 39.68lbs and yes when a young fella almost everything came in hundredweight bags, coal, cement, grain, etc I could lift it no problem but now I have difficulty with 25kg [55lb] [1/2cwt] bags

Accurate drill-sharpening jig for Sorby Pro-edge?

Chris, drill sharpening is an acquired skill and you can learn it with practice ! What size range are you wanting to sharpen ? Small drills [say 1/4" down] are more difficult than large drills from 1/4" upwards and much larger are even easier. The Pro Edge is not IMO the best tool for drill...

    Starrett square - rule damage

The marks look as though they could be machining marks ? where the cutter has torn the material ? But either way it should not be like that -- a replacement would be in order ! I have one which is almost certainly pre WW2 -- I am 80 and got of an old chap who was retiring in the 1960's still...

After 40 years - its' died

Why not just make a new screw ? It shouldn't be particularly difficult -- I just made a replacement spindle lock for a 0" - 0.5" M & W micrometer. Even if you cannot match the thread just make a new nut as well but the thread will almost certainly be a standard USA thread.

    Calor gas bottles for barbecue.

The bottle size is only the maximum capacity of the bottle, the price of gas per KG becomes cheaper as the bottle size increases. As for patio gas, [green] Calor et al propane [red bottle] as far as I am aware they are the same apart from the connector. I guess the connector reasons are...

    THE FOURTH OF JULY

Could not agree more Yorkiguy -- all should vote and respect those who made sure we have the freedom to do so --- 14 days from now my Dad was landing in Normandy, fortunately he survived but many did not ! I have never forgotten what he said to me when I was 21 --- " I'm not going to tell you...

    Dry rods

Paul, I know nothing about the rods but an old pal of mine used to do chemical damp proofing and it was very successful, he did several walls for my daughter in an old farm house - no DPC ! all 100% success. The company who supplied the chemicals was Sovereign Chemicals in Barrow- in-Furness...

Where can I find an electrical contractor for an old motor

Clive I had a similar problem and I too am not "electrical" beyond simple stuff. I needed a twin contactor for reversing a single phase motor, the original had failed [some 50yrs old] After much searching and trying RS & several other wholesalers I made contact with Scheinder Electrical...

Armouring internet cable under grave driveway

I assume the fibre optic cable is already inside a plastic tube laid first from the "box" to your home then the fibres blown through ? This is how our local fibre company do it. So what you are wanting to do is offer protection to the plastic tube ? Why not consider plumbing insulation as...

    Log Cabin Workshop 3.5m x 4.5m

I agree with Yojevol ---Not sure where your property boundaries are but I would have tried to ensure there was sufficient space all around the building for future maintenance -- wood treatment etc etc. Also ensure the wooden bearers have a DPC under them.

    Kitchen Worktop Joints

Simon, Assuming it is a 90deg turn corner joint I would purchase a router jig and make the correct joint. I have done several now [not a pro fitter] jigs are not so expensive now but you do need a 1/2 router. We are not too far apart feel free to message me if you wish.

    Bending a silver steel rod?

I cannot quite visualise what you wish to make -- or is it the clamp lever for the quill ? If so why use Silver Steel ? yes its stronger but BMS should suffice. However heating is not necessary and with SS could be problematic, if its BMS heating will not be a problem and a gas torch will work...
