Who is in and who is out?

The pound crashed, the stock markets lost value.... as widely predicted. So anyone going on holiday abroad will have to pay more immediately. Anyone hoping to retire soon with a private pension will lose. Petrol and diesel are expected to increase in price within the next few days.

Will Brexit affect companies that import lots like Axminster

The price for Festool and other German products won't be as greatly effected as products from outside the Eurozone, for now, because we're damaging the Euro too.

I can't see that happening despite only 37% of the electorate being in favour.

Will Brexit affect companies that import lots like Axminster

I share your pain on that. The problem is that we don't know if companies will react quickly and raise prices soon or wait until things settle down until the political turmoil slows and only raise prices as they have to import new stock at higher prices. Difficult times for everyone.

Will Brexit affect companies that import lots like Axminster

In the short term, ie the the next few years, it will depend on what deals they've negotiated with their suppliers eg whether future deliveries of products manufactured overseas are priced in sterling/US dollars/Chinese Yuan. As the pound has dropped imported goods will be more expensive (or...

52% of 72% = 37% Let the arguments begin. Grim, grim, grim.

That doesn't seem to reflect the views of the voting public though. They wanted change.

Who is in and who is out?

Strictly speaking this isn't a political issue as such. As it's such a hugely important subject for the UK. The mods have done exactly the correct thing to allow it to run whilst it's been informative and generally well tempered.

Who is in and who is out?

Not 'for once' almost all of Jacob's contributions here have been well reasoned, intelligent and articulate. It's just a huge shame that more people in the UK don't share such a well meaning social conscience.

    More sharpening woes

+1 to that. Sometimes too much information just confuses, rather than helps, when getting started. The long grinds are often rather a handful (ie catch a lot) in inexperienced hands. Mastering, or at least getting competent with, 'normal' profiles is a good starting point.

More importantly, how about the voters ?

Performance power PP370WL - any good for starter?

Like everyone else I'd advise avoiding that. Some really good bargains can be had on eBay on good secondhand lathes. Be patient and you could set yourself up really well for £150. Keep an eye out for something like a Record, Myford, Tyme, Arundel or Coronet. You may also get lucky with some good...

    More sharpening woes

Totally agree. A decent wheel and some home made jigs will get you set up to sharpen turning tools for a fraction of the price. However if budget isn't an issue, yes go out and buy a SPE, you're unlikely to be disappointed and it does do a great job for hand tools too. It's often repeated here...

Free books with the woodworking magazines this month.

A lot of the UK woodworking magazines are being packed with free books this month. I found the following at a local W H Smiths. Seems a good deal for some useful or interesting books still on sale elsewhere at full price. Wood Carving Magazine; Essential woodcarving techniques by **** Onians...

Who is in and who is out?

Historically Boris Johnson supports the idea of Turkey joining the EU as it was the original centre of Europe; https://www.facebook.com/EvolvePolitics ... nref=story But then he rather liked the idea of staying in the EU http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/ho ... 89991.html Remember how long...

Yes, you can build a vertical belt linisher for less. What you miss is the quality build of the tool rests/jigs that makes different setting so accurate, easy and repeatable. Plus they do hold their value rather better.

Actually I think Greece may have that honour if you really want to start digging up history. Empire rise, empires fall. We're a big player now as part of the EU, flounce off and things will are very unlikely to get better.

Who is in and who is out?

Yes, I worked on it. This is probably the first thing you've said I'd agree with. You might have a different view of the Brexiters if you'd had to spend the whole two hours watching just them as I had to.

Who is in and who is out?

If you care about the NHS the only way to vote is to remain. The only possible benefits from leaving are very distant in the future; Less people in the UK to put pressure on services (that won't change for very many years) and a government with the will to increase funding and having the...
