    Keter workbench for woodworking

Weight is one thing, racking is another. Push your workmate up against the wall and it won’t rack in one direction. Put you workpiece on the floor and it won’t bounce so much. These are all workarounds you can use to make a bench

    Hinge innovation?

Leather hinges are traditional, like before people came up with metal hinges which are way better

    Carbide question

Carbide should last ages on soft copper and resin, the problem I’d expect to happen is the cutter getting gummed up very easily, which is less to do with the tool and more the coolant flow/removal

    Is this asbestos?

It does look like fibre cement board to me too, but suggestions to be careful are well heeded Aidan

    Who are Tull International

Just checking… you’re going to save the UK by buying things that have already been sold? What does the UK need saving from?

How to paint letters into wood?

Ordinary gloss works fine, then once dry a gentle sand over the top gives you crisp lines. The only time I’ve had a problem is on cedar when the paint just wouldn’t harden, maybe that’s where sealing should have been done

    Vacuum hose connector

Many plumbing fittings can be used as cheap alternatives, then with cutting bits of extractor pipe, drainpipe etc you can make to fit most things easily enough. If you have the time that is

    Bench Sander Table

That’s a very common machine sold under a lot of brand names, yes, they all have a pants table on them, but then for the price it’s what you expect, they’re still remarkably capable, I’ve been abusing a Clarke branded once for 20-years and it’s still going, which surprises me. I can’t see an...

    Cyclone relief valve placement

The relief valve is usually for when the hose is blocked, if your chamber is being squashed under normal use then it’s not strong enough for your intended application, so just strengthening it as you’ve done is probably the best plan

    French Polishing

If it’s cellulose, has the finish cracked? If not you can re-polish it by fine sanding then using a burnish cream

    Decking sanding

If it’s softwood it’s unlikely to sand well, but a pressure washer works great

    Dust masks. Do you shave?

Getting a good seal on a face is notoriously hard, mostly for respirators it's critical. Hence the Soviet approach of going over the entire head

    Kids

    They really wouldn’t.

    Garden bench slats

I’d leave oak as is, any coating is going to fail at some stage. I’ve used cedar with osmo UV oil… should have not bothered as it now looks like it did before adding the oil, just a nice silver

    Router Jigs

Yes! But a jig is just a tool, whatever works is good enough. Getting the base thin is useful for getting the max depth of cut so using acrylic or similar as the running surface at the bottom helps and clear stuff helps you see better

Planing to make my own table saw out of a circular one... what would make a good circular saw to use?

The toxic bit is less of a concern than the mechanical damage it does, unless you happen to be allergic, but you get the picture :)

Looking for a home for vintage hand mortiser and wooden moulding planes

Believe it or not, that mortiser is valueless other than weighing it in. But if you scraped the top half the legs are worth about £100 if you get the right buyer. Just as shame they’ve been painted. The planes could be worth something if you pair them up and see if they still work

    Kids

A common miss-understanding. You paid for the people who were old when you were paying, there were substantially less of them, they lived far shorter lives and cost dramatically less. But that’s ok, everyone contributes to society as it is needed, I’m sure you wouldn’t start complaining about...

    Kids

I thought this topic would bring out the stereotypes, I could almost predict who. Those kids are going to pay for your pension and healthcare, show some respect, old people these days, grew up without any boundaries and now look at them.

eBay Bargains, evening of Sunday 11 July 2021

It’s one of those vacuum cleaners like a Henry isn’t it?
