    Gorilla Glue

I have used gorilla glue and find it very good. I usually use it for bonding oily timbers such as iroko and wenge and for gluing up panels. You can get other pu glues that are a lot cheaper but gorilla glue gives you a longer open time which can be quite short with other PU glues. In my...

    veneers

I have just had a look at vale veneers they have a nice site showing the actual veneers that they are selling which is good. You are paying a premium though for the ability to buy a single leaf of veneer as there prices are 2 - 3 times more expensive than buying a full bundle of 24 leaves from a...

    veneers

If you like the look of it its probably a cost effective way of purchasing. 4 leaves will give you various options of matching the veneer either by book matching or a diamond pattern. Jon

Baby High Chair - go easy i'm a newbie

As a pro woodworker there is usually no time to acclimatise timber in the ways discussed above except for special one off jobs. If the timber being used is kiln dried and the project properly designed to accomadate wood movement there should be no problems. Timber is more likely to move due to...

    Panel Saw approx £1500

A vertical panel saw is a good option if all you do is panel work as it saves a fair bit of space but can be a bit limited on angled cuts etc. You would still need a table saw if you intend doing any solid timber work as well. Jon

    veneers

Another vote here for crispins who merged with the capital veneer company a few years ago now. http://www.capitalcrispin.com/ I usually buy by mail order and they are very good at selecting the right veneers for the job. You will usually have to buy a full bundle of veneers which is usually 24...

    Panel Saw approx £1500

For ease of work you will find a slider than can rip cut an 8 X 4 sheet to be a real benefit. Often sheet edges are not actually straight or are damaged and pushing a full sheet on your own against the rip fence can be hard work to keep it straight. For the top end of your budget you will...

    multico morticer

The multicos are a decent machine. They made models from small benchtop machines to floor standing machines and ones with removeable beds which you can mortice door locks with. The british firm has gone bust but i believe the morticers are still being made in france by another company. I have...

Planer thicknesser help Hammer vs. Sedgwick?

I saw the Hammer at the felder showroom at Milton Keynes when i was looking for a panel saw. It looked goodvalue at the previous price point. The problem with looking at them at felder is that they seem a little flimsy when you can instantly compare them with a felder or format4. Jon

Planer thicknesser help Hammer vs. Sedgwick?

Hi i have had a sedgwick MB 12 inch planer for about 8 years now and I have never experienced any of the problems you are encountering. If the cutters keep coming loose i expect it is a fault with the block and changing the wedges and screws may work. I dont find changing the blades particularly...

    Scribing in to an alcove

I would do it a similar way to Dan. I usually scribe one side of the alcove onto the hardboard and get this to fit properly. I then get another sheet of hardboard for the other side which overlaps the first template and scribe to the other wall. where the two templates overlap just pop in a...

    Ryobi RT-6000 Manual

Is it the one with the cast iron table at the back and sliding table in front. If it is its the same as mine and i will have a look and see if i have still got it. The only instructions you really need are clamp the router to the bed. Plug it into the NVR switch and feed in the right...

Which wood glue for work bench

PVA is available in different grades a D3 grade PVA is supposedly more resistant to creep than a non D3 grade PVA. My own preference for gluing up a top like that would be a UF resin such as cascamite, extramite or whatever they are calling it these days. Jon

Erm... First outing with Pocket Hole joinery...

I presume youve pocket screwed the wrong side. :( You can get wooden plugs to fit the pocket holes which will probably shrink less than filler and be less noticeable under the paint. jon

    Rain gutter finish

You could fit a rebated piece first and then rebate the first board as well so that it slots into it and allows the wood to move. Jon
