Sharpening - Diamond or Carbide?

Hi all...

Want to get something to sharpen small tools. Initially some secateurs but probably utility knives and similar going forward. Been checking out Axminster and found a handy looking carbide sharpener but also spotted the diamond sharpening too. Which is the best type?

Perhaps everybody is out in the shed sharpening and honing plane irons and hasnt noticed your post. I have some dmt diamond stones and are very good the small ones are great for keeping in the pocket and touchingup small tools. I have no experience of the carbide type.

OK, I'm game! I'll avoid answering your question with an alternative. Maplin do a pair of diamond "stones" cheaper than Axi: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=217871 useful if you have a local store. I've also seen similar on local market stalls. I use these for kitchen knives, garden tools etc and keep my full sharpening kit for workshop tools.

Diamond is sounding promising... I'm off to B&Q shortly so I'll take a look there too.
