Going round in circles with planer, thicknesser decisions!

Sounds like what you need is a 4 sided planer moulder. Your budget of 4k will however not stretch that far. You will also need a fairly hefty 3 phase supply to run them and a big extractor for the chippings. An Auction is probably the only chance of getting one for that kind of money but with...

Teak for sale on the bay

I was chatting to a Yacht builder the other day and he was paying £225 a cubic foot. That would probably be excluding VAT. So very expensive  Jon

    Sourcing Fireback Material.

I would have thought you would have to balance the fireback material adequately to prevent the top from warping. You may get away balancing with a thin laminate or using the same thickness is better. I cant see what benefit you will get from using 3mm laminate. Stamdard thin laminate would be...

    Help with fanlight window

I would build up the top section arch in 4 pieces. 2 uprights either side and 2 pieces which meet in the middle. To join these it would be best to use a large loose tenon which is pegged together. The groove for the loose tenon could be cut on either the spindle if you have big enough tooling...

Non yellowing finish for birds eye maple

Waterbourne lacquer will keep the maple lighter than a pre cat or acid cat lacquer but there is little that can be done to stop the timber yellowing with exposure to light which will cause the maple to go yelllow in time. Jon

    Magswitches

I have used them for getting on for a year now and have stood up well to life in a pro shop. It gets most use on the planer for squaring stock. The newer versions seem to be improved with options to add featherboards to the standard piece and are now available in a nice shade of yellow...
