    greenhouse finished

Started last Monday on converting a hexagonal shaped horse shelter into a greenhouse / potting shed. The original construction wasnt very inspiring but was solid and pretty square and level. Brick walls were built for the frames to sit on. The frames were machined and dry fitted in the...

    Wood for Painted Furniture ?

I dont like tulipwood its too soft so for painted kitchens i use either beech or maple for a flat finish or american ash for a see the grain finish. cheers jon

    Scribe cutters

The ones with the pip just match the corresponding profile and the rebate starts where the cutter ends. The ones without a pip are usually ones like sash windows where you have tenon of either 9 or 12mm on the flat part before you have the rebate so you dont need the pip. I hope this makes...

    Headless pinner

Another vote here for the axminster one , ive had it a while and it works fine. I had a look at some of the bostich pinners which were good and had the advantage of up to 40mm pins rather than the 20mm max with the axminster but they were also 4-5 times the cost as well. cheers jon

    oak stairs by newbie.

I posted a few pics last year which can be seen in this thread https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/stai ... case%20wip Staircases are quite straightforward once you have worked out the rise and going. Marking out needs to be exact. For your oak you could try here for some good quality...

    Mafell Duo Doweller Questions:

Hi Chris a freind of mine has one and its a nice well made machine although to my mind not as vesatile as the domino but if you have a special task for it it could be ideal. You can do larger panel work by using the allumnium templates. Best i could find on the web is this...

The Domino - So what exactly do you get for your money?

I think the general consensus is that the spring loaded steel pins are better and it was only changed because of a patent infringement with the mafell duo doweler. cheers jon

    The BZB has landed

I have got the machine sparked up and it runs nice and quietly. I was wanting to try it out and the original brass guides need replacing so i decided to give the guides a go and bolted them to the machine. The only blades I have at the moment are 4tpi hook blades at 9mm wide which came with the...

    multico m1 morticer

I have a fairly new model M1. One thing to consider when buying the chisels is whether the augers are going to fit in the collets that you have. I got some made up by a local engineer but you may have a full set with your machine. cheers jon

    The BZB has landed

Thanks for the info Mark. Been having a bit of a google and the guides i have seem to be these http://www.conwaysaw.co.uk/toolingcutte ... wguide.htm the 789 model at £92 had a look at the scott and sargent ones and they are pretty pricey. cheers jon

    The BZB has landed

We managed to get the bandsaw stood up and in the workshop by 9am. It was a lot easier than getting it on. We used a bobcat digger with some straps under the bandsaw to take the weight and then wheeled the trailer out of the way and then carefully lowered it. We then put a lifting eye in the top...

This is going to be a review of the wadkin BZB bandsaw only one comment so far and that is its bloody heavy :D Been to Doug B's today to pick up the bandsaw. Many thanks Doug for the effort required to get a 700kg machine onto the trailer with a couple of planks of beech a block and tackle and...

    Pimp my planer?

It looks pretty cool John. I would have thought these machines refurbished to look like new are often done by the company Daltons in this instance for exhibitions to show off there workshop skills. cheers jon
