    Lighting scroll saw

Lol I use specs as well! You are right not everyone needs a mag light and they are (IMHO) only useful when doing very detailed and intricate work, most of the time they are not needed. They are also awkward to get used to as everything is magnified, it's a bit like using a Wacom 6"x4" pen and...

    What dust extractor and sander

I have never used an extractor on my Fret saw, I do on all my other machines but the amount of dust generated by the saw is so little I have never felt I needed one, however as the amount of waste is small I would suggest using a standard vacuum cleaner would do the job adequately, IMHO a nice...

Good to hear Brian, I am expecting to read full reports from you on this saw complete with images of it's in's and outs, You have been appointed chief AWFS18 test reporter to the forum!  Yes I use Coreldraw and Photoshop for doing designs but it can be hard work, sometimes...

    Diamond Scroll Saw Video

Depending on what other saws you have used you may or may not have missed out! Compared to some saws on the market the Diamond is a well made reliable quality saw that is very versatile but it does have several disadvantages to some better saws one is that it does vibrate quite a lot unless...

    Lighting scroll saw

That's fine if you just want light but for those of us with imperfect vision and cutting very fine detail a magnifying lamp makes a big difference. They can be awkward to get used to at first though. :)

    Lighting scroll saw

TBH I reckon that the Maplin one is a better deal, it's £10 cheaper ATM and has a bigger magnifying lens. :)

    Diamond Scroll Saw Video

Thanks for that, being a Diamond owner I found it very interesting, however two complaints, One I found the background music(?) both unnecessary and very annoying! Why do people feel that have to put music on everything? the blokes commentary and the whirl of the saw was perfectly adequate...

    Lighting scroll saw

That is a good lamp for a saw, many years ago I bought a similar one from the then Office World store but mine does not have the fluorescent lamp just an ES tungsten bulb, I didn't use the clamp I simply drilled a hole in the back of my wooden stand and fit it in there. Actually I might...

    ...........

Regarding bolting down a scrollsaw; Roger Buse the man who sold me my Hegner told me that you get a lot less vibration by using a metal stand rather than a wooden one, something to do with the frequency that the saw oscillates at, having never used a metal stand I don't know if that is correct...

    New Blood

Hello Novo and welcome to the forum. It matters not what equipment you have whether it is a simple hand frame or a £1000 fretsaw, what matters is that you get pleasure from your hobby. :)

    Blade question

Have a look here http://www.alwayshobbies.com/tools/hand ... ccessories all the pinless fretsaw blades will fit both fretsaws and Jewellers saws. Blades generally start at 00 very fine and go up via sizes 0, 1, 2 etc up to size 11 which are the heaviest and coarsest. The extremely fine tooth...

    Ripoff Britain

Indeed. Not sure how long they have been in business but it's at least 54 years because they were advertising in practical householder magazine at that time! :)

If it's of interest to anyone.......... Proops Brothers do a range of small sanders that are very useful to fretworkers! http://www.proopsbrothers.com/acatalog/ ... rs_43.html Proops have been in business for many years and are very good to deal with. (They also sell on ebay)

    Hegner advice??

There is no doubt that Hegner saws are very expensive (IMHO overpriced) however they are very good saws and I don't ever regret buying mine. Any Hegner saw is going to be of decent quality and I am sure you would not be disappointed even with a 2nd hand machine. My own personal view (others...

Axminster AWFS 18 how does it compare to a Hegner?

I don't know for sure but I have a feeling they lost the museum, when they moved from Dereham to Raveningham in 2008. I understand that the company has changed hands, as you are probably aware it was started again back in 1968 by Ivan Stroulger and later run by his sons (Ivan Stroulger passed...

Axminster AWFS 18 how does it compare to a Hegner?

I think the Imperial came as standard with the drill attachment, perhaps the one you have was modified when that wooden part was fitted and the drill part was removed! The A1 could be bought with or without the drill unit but I don't think it could be retro fitted. Just before the WW2 the A1 was...

Axminster AWFS 18 how does it compare to a Hegner?

Thanks for the pictures they are very interesting, my favourites are the Victory and the Imperial. The Victory looks to be very sturdy! I am a bit dubious of that block of wood that is used to mount the saw on top of the legs on the imperial? I have always assumed that this part was a metal...
