    Interesting site

Eric it is indeed a very impressive piece of work - although the one in your picture is not complete, if you look at the one on my website the original has a very detailed frame around it which improves the item enormously. My late grandfather was an excellent fretworker back in those early days...

    Scroll Saw comparisons

Afraid I don't think too much of their recommendations - especially their choice of that Dremel moto saw as best for beginners! IMHO anyone new to the hobby who bought one of these to start with would soon be put off the hobby for good whereas an efficient and easy to use machine would encourage...

    After a Hegner?

Is it the one with the tape wrapped around the top arm? Looks like it sold at £99 but it's now re-listed. As you say it's a bit odd - the saw has the later top arm with Quick tension release plus the excellent quick clamp - both of which are good but it does not have variable speed, I would...

    Axminster Scroll Saw

Is your model one of the cheap machines or a Pegas 'lookalike'?

    Interesting site

My website has free plans to download- they are old fretwork plans from the original (pre 1968) Honnies company and the old (pre 1930's) Handicraft company. I am adding more as time allows. https://sites.google.com/view/scrimpers-fretworking-site/home

Sourcing Blades for Scroll Saws and Jewellers, Piercing, Coping, & Junior Hack Saws

I agree with what 'Whatnot' says - that your saw is designed to take standard pinned blades. The machine was available under many different brands and guises, I believe that Axminster sold a version at one time.

    Hegner Multi Cut 1?

I would recommend you just remove the hold down and guard and just get used to holding the work down firmly. As mentioned elsewhere - always ensure the blade is fitted teeth down. That plastic guard thing is pointless - If I had to put up with that I think I would give up the hobby! Bin it is my...

    Hegner Multi Cut 1?

There is a little image of the way the teeth should point in the side of the table in the clamp holding socket. The simple way to tell if the blade is fitted correctly is to run your finger up or down the blade (turned off of course!) if you run your hand up you should feel the sharp teeth which...

    Charnwood Scroll Saws

It is yet another clone of a cheaply made saw but with some extra embellishments to make it look prettier and better to use - which it won't be. There are a huge number of scroll saws all built on the same basic design in various styles and colours but underneath most are the same and there is...

    Hegner Multi Cut 1?

I see that Lamb has answered your question admirably - may I suggest that you remove the hold down tool and guard thing completely, they serve no useful purpose and make the saw much more fiddly to use. :)

    Hegner Multi Cut 1?

Hugh am I right in thinking you have a Coronet major? It very much looks like one poking it's 'nose' into your images above. I have the one shown below which I bought new in 1976. I had wanted one since I was a lad after seeing them advertised in the DIY magazines in the 1960's. They are a...

    Hegner Multi Cut 1?

I agree 100% about the blade touching the locking screw that is exactly correct. :) I hope you enjoy using your Hegner they are a brilliant machine - even after 25 years of use I still love using mine, it is my favourite machine to use in my workshop - quiet and gentle to use compare to all the...

    Hegner Multi Cut 1?

Many thanks for recommending my website. I think you do exaggerate on my knowledge on Hegner though- but thank you for the compliment. I agree with your comment on the use of the Quick clamp - in my opinion it's essential and improves the cutting experience massively.

I do like multi layer items like this - very effective.

You don't have to have a Hegner to do good work Fergie, many people do wonderful stuff on a cheap machine - even a treadle machine or hand frame, it's just that a quality machine (not just a Hegner - other makes are decent too) makes it a lot easier and less frustrating especially doing work...

    I just hold it freehand.

    Interior drill holes

I normally use a pin chuck in a normal cordless drill, if the work is really delicate and needs a very small hole i use a mini drill (like a dremel). :)

Lumberjack SS405 16" Variable Speed Scroll Saw

Personally I wouldn't buy it. Basically it is a far east made clone that is sold under very many different brands, like many others they all have little differences such as colour different switch knobs, covers and added gadgets but like the one you mention they are all based on a standard model...

    First scroll saw

Kind of you to say, but my knowledge is not as good as you imagine and these days the problem is gaining access to stuff in my head which is locked away in my brain and I don't have the key to access it (well it feels like that!)
