October Woodturning Challenge - PLEASE POST ENTRIES HERE

Here is my entry for this months challenge. It is made from elm with quite a bit of character and interesting grain. I roughed it on a screw chuck and recessed the one side to get my chuck jaws into, took it off the screw and turned it around then hollowed the centre just with a bowl gouge. I...

    Cider making

Rob, I'm not sure about the weight of the apples but we had the boot of a C-max full plus a few more small bags, I guess somewhere between 60 and 100kg. Cider apples also seemed to yield about a third more than the cookers and eaters we have used before. Tony, don't worry she's still in one...

Thanks to Emma (Mrs T) we were able to make cider this year with some (a car full of) proper cider apples, here are a few pics: Hannah helping me to pulp the apples (Kingston black I think!) Al filing the press with the pulp The results after 4 pressings, in total we managed 14 gallons...

    Small workshops

Less than half of a single garage, so about 50 sq ft, no room for more than my lathe, workbench and bandsaw!

NOS woodies - plough and sash fillister

Jimi - they went for £23 delivered in the end! The Startrite is an SP156, that's all record power could tell me about it but it's quite solid with a cast aly case (By the way there was a 3 phase one for sale on ebay the other day). Andy - yes that's a 1942 mark, I guessed it was something to do...

NOS woodies - plough and sash fillister

Just thought I would share some pics of the planes I have just acquired: The Salmen plough (on the right) came with 10 irons, mostly still in their wax and rustproofing paper. The Marples sash fillister came with some random spare irons. As they are not really collectors pieces I will be...

    National forest wood fair

Just wanted to say thankyou Richard for taking the time to show me how to use the lambs tongue and skew rebate earlier. I have already ordered a copy of mouldings in practice and been out in the shed for a practice but looks like most of my planes will need some "fettling"! Mike

    wood glue

What woods were you trying to join? Some woods are quite oily and do not adhere as well as others.

    One Log, two pots

Very nice shape and finish, just enough colour to not detract from the grain.
