Statistics - not my strong point

Yes the probability of you winning is 1.0 but the individual odds for all those tickets still remains the same - it's just that you have them all so it's no longer a game of chance! Brian

Statistics - not my strong point

That's because if you cover every possible permutation you're not playing a game of chance! Brian

Statistics - not my strong point

The only way to reduce the odds is to buy nine tickets and cover every number - that way you are guaranteed to get the first number so the odds go down to whatever the odds are for five balls (?) That just leaves you down £9! Having 50 tickets (or more) doesn't increase your chances as none of...

Regency (?) desk and strength of wood ?

Earlywood/latewood - also known as springwood/summerwood - are the two divisions of a growth ring. Softwoods are principally comprised of one fibre type that provides the support and water conducting needs of the tree. During a growing season (in a temperate, or seasonal, environment) the wood...

    Magazines

Nick I read your review of the TS200C, after I'd bought mine, and I don't think you were critical enough. To say it requires a little fettling is an understatement. There is nothing wrong with the saw mechanism but as a tool it has been crippled by the poor design of the rest of it. I agree...

Regency (?) desk and strength of wood ?

Hi Stef Yes, 'merisier' is cherry. As for using pine, whilst I think it would be strong enough you may not like the texture you get with the earlywood/latewood you get in pine (or maybe you might?). You could always make the sections larger, dry fit it, then take more wood off if you think you...

    Magazines

I fully accept the finer points of maintaining good relationships between magazine editors and manufacturers. My personal observation though is that many 'reviews' are nothing more than longer adverts. Constructive criticism - and it has to be constructive - is far more informative. There will...

    Magazines

Steve I'm sure that all input into these, and other, magazines is done with the utmost degree of integrity and I don't wish to imply otherwise. My concern with reviewing something that you have received, rather than purchased, is the human element of accentuating the positives and downplaying...

    Magazines

I think it's a reflection of the 'sound-bite' world we've become used to? I flicked through F&C recently in WHS and probably got 90% of the content with a skim-read so sitting down to read it would have been a disappointment. There doesn't seem to be any in-depth articles in any of these...

    Price of mahogany

Hi Neil That works out at just over 12 cu ft. Take a look at Timberline for guidance - they are selling Honduras mahogany ~ £100 cu ft. Brian

    which table saw blades

I bought the TS200C a few months ago and I have to say I think Record surpassed themselves with this one. It's a triumph of form over function - it looks good but before long you just don't want to use it!. Some designs look good on paper - that's where this one should have stayed...

    Walnut Veneer

Good luck with it. You could maybe get some of their ash or beech they have on special offer. It's also good as a backing veneer. Brian

    Timber for Boxes

Direct contact with timber will cause silver to tarnish, due to its natural acidity, but if you use a sealer there shouldn't be any problems? Apparently, wool and rubber also tarnish silver so avoid socks!! Brian

    Panels bending

Are you using shrink-wrap packs of 2x1 straight from one of the sheds? It sounds like it could be due to the timbers distorting once they are in a warmer environment rather than anything to do with the mdf. Brian
