    B&Q trade point counter rant

This is what happened to me, at my local B&Q today. I needed a toilet siphon and found one in the trade point catalogue for £4.25 +vat. I went into the store, picked one up off the shelf (there was approx. 2 dozen in stock) but they were priced at £14.95. I went to the trade counter with my...

High speed rail link - London to B'ham

I've never been anywhere on a train yet. But thats not because I haven't tried. Its just that whenever I've priced up a ticket, its so much cheaper to go by car

    Painted shaker kitchen

When you say its a painted kitchen, do you mean a spray finish or a hand painted one. If its a hand painted one do you paint it yourself or employ a professional painter.

    Running shaker doors

Can I just ask a question regarding painted shaker doors. After you have constructed them with the panel in and then painted them, have you ever had a problem with the door shrinking or expanding and then the paint cracks where the panel goes into the slot to leave a line of un-painted panel.

Tongue issue on reclaimed oak flooring

Thanks for all the advice. I've just showed SWMBO the pictures of your floor Dibs-- Damn, I wish I hadn't now! She wants me to do the same design with the border. What glue did you use that stuck to the bitumen? If you can remember, because I didn't think anything stuck to that

Tongue issue on reclaimed oak flooring

I know what you mean but for some reason the tongues don't always line up quite as good as I would want with the groove. There's only 8 m2, which came from a pile of stock collected and stored over the years from a developer friend of mine, so even though they are all around the right size, the...

Tongue issue on reclaimed oak flooring

I've been given some solid oak reclaimed flooring and have cleaned up the face and back removing any old varnish and glue. They are all oblong pieces, tongue and grooved but slightly differ in size (length and width) by a couple of mm here and there. I'm hoping to glue them down on a concrete...

    AA Membership

Autoaid have some good reviews on forums. The way they work is autoaid send a local garage or recovery company out to you, which you pay for at the time and then claim the monies back from Autoaid after. This refund takes around 2 weeks. The cover I want from the AA is around £80 but I'm hoping...

    AA Membership

I'm just had my renewal with the RAC. I've been with them for over 25 years and the price renewal was £30 more than if I was a new customer. So much for loyalty. I did some shopping around and have now gone with the AA. Another company worth looking at is "Autoaid". the price is £37 for cover...

Flueless Gas Fires. Good or Bad ?

Personally I wouldn't fit one but that doesn't mean they are not safe if they are fitted to the manufacturers instructions. You do have to put an air vent to outside which really defeats the object of keeping the room warm to me, so people block this vent up to avoid the drafts, thus making the...

    Errrmmm... quickie workshop plumbing question

Rats love the plastic pipe. I've seen a few fittings and pipe gnawed through over the last few years. Personally I would stick to copper and solder joints even though plastic is so much easier to use.

    Not quite woodworking... Glass splashbacks

I like the look of that. I'm thinking of doing the same on my kitchen. Did you get them from a splashback supplier or from a local glazier and painted them yourself .

    Looking for cooker hood ducting

Does anyone know where I can get some 150mm plastic ducting for my cooker hood. I've tried my local plumbers merchants but they only stock 100 or 125 mm extraction kits. I've got the same problem with the sheds, they only stock 100mm kits. I'm in the East Lancs area and any help would be appreciated
