Anyone else have an issue with differing Makita track profiles?

And I suppose all shoddy building work is done by Eastern Europeans?

Anyone else have an issue with differing Makita track profiles?

Is the variation the same at the other end or do they transition properly when connected up? If all’s well then I would personally let it go and start using it rather than chew up time calling up, sending things back and waiting for new tracks to arrive. But of course, I understand that it’s...

    SIPPs

Now that you have pique my interest, I did a quick scan of the current annual base charges of typical SIPP providers: Vanguard 0.15% capped at £375 (equivalent to £250,000 value) II service charge £120 + SIPP charge £119.88 = £239.88 fixed cost HL 0.45% capped at £200 (equivalent to £44,444...

    SIPPs

    - What, broadly, does your son’s SIPP invest in? The sipp providers charge different fees for funds vs shares/ETFs. - How often do you trade? II, for instance, gives one trading credit per month. - How important is the ability to invest in a wide selection of stocks and in other countries? Some...

Festool TKS 80 table top, is this acceptable?

Is the bow throughout the length of the table or dished in the middle? Just wondered how the motor is mounted on the table and whether it’s weighing down the tabletop causing deflection.

    Festool C70 Pull Saw

The pull function on my Erika table is really useful and far safer when cross-cutting, making dados or notching long and/or heavy boards. I have the sliding table but don’t use it for the above because I would have to set up a coplanar support at the far end of the board for the whole sliding...

Sold Veritas Low Angle Block Plane w/ PM-V11 Blade

**Sold** (duplicate item thread) Having a mini workshop tidy-up and selling my Veritas low angle block plane with PM-V11 blade. The blade is sharpened to 25 deg with no micro bevel or ruler trick at the back. The block plane has the usual nicks and scuffs expected for a working tool. It has...

3m saw guide rail. How straight is straight?

I tend to leave a very small gap between my two Mafell 1600mm rails when joined up using the connector piece in case the ends aren’t square and butting up could cause a slight deflection. How do you put the rail on to your marks? I lower them onto the marks rather than sliding the rails to them...

    Looking for cornice moulding.

Take a look at the cornices in WRP timber mouldings and see if anything resembles yours. Otherwise, for 2m-odd run, go on eBay get yourself a pair of hollow and rounds!

Varnished kitchen worktop in lousy condition - which sander please?

Mirka have the Deros available in 2.5mm, 5mm or 8mm oscillation versions depending on how aggressive you want the sanding to be (for a given grit). Mine must be about 8 years old and still works great. Apart from Abranet and saver pads, the only other thing I had to replace was the power cord...

List of notable woodworkers who use only hand tools

Josh Stevens aka Mr Chickadee on YT works from the tree onward using hand tools alone on his homestead. Does some really nice joinery like the traditional Korean no nail floors as well as Shaker furniture all shot without any talking.

    Replacement iron for Stanley No.8

My 2” and 2-3/8” Ray Iles blades are both 2.8mm thick if that’s any help. Classic Hand Tools advised me to choose the Ray Iles blades for my LN planes as the Hock blades were thinner and so might not be able to get the mouth to be tight after advancing the frog to the limit. They even tried the...

Varnished kitchen worktop in lousy condition - which sander please?

Another vote for the humble scraper. I use the Bahco 665, just make sure the blade edge is sharp. Any paint or varnish removal is first tackled with that with medium pressure. It’s much more efficient than sanding that has its attendant dust, noise, paper clogging up and sheer boredom.

Clifton needs to make a router plane

A Clifton/WM/Tees Valley Preston style router plane would be interesting. I have the LN 71 but can see the two complementing each other for, say, different stile dimensions when trimming tenon cheeks.

Ordering hand tools from EU sources

The other joke is Tory donors backing Brexit buying their euro passports. And one more is Starmer, my MP, doing nothing to hold Boris to account.

Using a router to make dowels

You can get 6mm dowel router bits from Wealden or Festool which are spiral. Is this for creating rows of shelf pin holes? Perhaps take a look at Festool LR 32 and DIY versions.

Weldon tools router cutters -- opinions ?

Agree with the above comments that Wealden router bits are good and delivery is prompt. Have also used Whiteside and Infinity cutters and they are fine too.

    Roubo Workbench Decisions

Yes the Moravian worktop will lift off but I wouldn’t be worried about it sliding off or being unstable. In the past, my workbench was a ply torsion box placed unsecured on top of a pair metal sawhorses and had done serious amount of hand planing without problem.
