    Rolling stock.

I've spent a lot of time on those trains, probably even in the actual carriage on the picture. There are posters in the North West stations stating that 99.7% (made up number but somewhere around that mark) are on time. I don't take the train much any more but I'd say that at least every other...

    Cheap Trend diamond stones

I get all my filters from eBay. They only pop up every so often and I wouldn't be surprised if they fell off the back off the back of a van. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk

    Colouring Oak

I've been interested in this too. Does the vinegar and steel wool solely colour the oak or does it have an effect on how the oak feels and behaves? For example is the surface softened at all? Can you apply traditional finishes over it? Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk

    Pocket hole deals?

I have one of those Irwins that I use for clamping. It does the job but I can't help but think there must be something more suitable for the task out there somewhere. I still advocate for the Chinese drill bits. But that's only because they've been a good alternative to the brittle Axminster...

A lathe for the wife.... advice

I have a titan bench grinder from screwfix for sharpening. Better motor than the other budget brands but as it's cheap, the build quality isn't the best. You'll need to fit any bench grinder not specifically marketed towards wood turners with a better wheel. White or pink. Mines white from...

How much of an issue is rust?

I'll grab some of those. I'm sure some people have vans that are bigger than my current workspace. If I set them on the lathe bed overnight I'm sure they'll do a half decent job. Got some waxoyl from halfords and a couple of other things that may or may not help. Sent from my LG-H815 using...

How much of an issue is rust?

I've started combing the house for silica. I'll probably get the Boeshield and a dehumidifier too. Thanks for the advice. The workshop isn't dripping wet now, but I could still use all the help I can get. What's a reasonable price for the 12oz bottle. I've found it at around 13 quid on...

How much of an issue is rust?

I've had issues with a leaky shed the last few days. As a result some of my tools are rusted. I just found some that I had missed on my lathe. As far as I can tell none if the moving parts are affected, just an exposed area around the lever that loosens the belt. I plan to clean it off a bit...

Any tool or WW posts here will be cast into the ether...

Let me add to that Steve's workshop build thread then. Steve seems like a good guy, he's given myself and countless other forum members invaluable advice, and I really enjoyed the thread but perhaps that should be in workshops too. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk

    Homemade tool rest?

My top rest has some substantial dents in it. It arrived with some of them and a couple were the result of an over eager bowl gouge. I'm getting a bit tired of working around them and I was wondering if I could turn the right diameter rod out of a hardwood (or use some kind of scrap metal) and...

better way to oil chopping boards

I use walnut oil. £1.50 a bottle from Asda and smells delicious. It does tend to make the wood darker in the same manner as some other oils though. And you need to be careful about giving them away because of potential allergies. Dries in two days. I also have a safflower oil and beeswax mix...

    Pocket hole deals?

UJK mini jig from Axminster is also a decent choice. I would avoid the Axminster drill bits however and get one of the cheap Chinese knock offs from eBay. The Axminster ones haven't been reliable for me. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk

Ebay find - mysterious table saw-

I'd be interested in the planer if the price is right and if a site doesn't take it for whatever reason. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk

    Finding your niche

I'm limited to what I can afford and fit in to my small (even more so now that my larger shed leaked) workshop. The biggest piece of machinery is a good quality lathe. The rest of the stuff is serviceable. I'm fairly glad I started out small with a limited budget because given unlimited money...

    Leaky shed

Done it. The shed now has a bright blue dinner lady hat on. Spent the morning in the mud, up a ladder and on the roof of the shed in the pouring rain. It's a shame I only worked up the courage to get on the roof for the last bit or the whole thing would look much neater. It'll do for now...

Any tool or WW posts here will be cast into the ether...

I think this and the thread by cornish joinery about opening a section of the forum for 'trade' or more reasonably business discussion (which I agree with but the point wasn't made very well) raise the issue that there are a number of posts that don't really belong anywhere. For example I've...

    My least favourite job.....

Anything overly loud. Not because it bothers me personally but because I'm constantly nervous that I'll draw the wrath of someone with an axe to grind. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk

    Leaky shed

Got a tarp from the range as a temporary solution. It's going up tomorrow morning then that 12" slab of ash is taking a beating on the lathe. Of course the other shed is also a centimetre higher at one end than the other because why would someone ever do a proper job of something? Sent from...

Turning pens. What do I need?

Any recommendations on mandrels? What kind of issues would you expect a cheaper mandrel to have in comparison with better ones? Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
