    Sharpening a gouge

Hi, Many thanks for the reply. I can;t quite make it out in the pic, but I take it the edge/s is/are profiled? Thanks

    Sharpening a gouge

Apologies if this is well-trodden ground, but I wasn't able to find an answer with the search function. Anywho, I have rounded gouge, where the bevel is on the inside of the curve(if that makes sense), so I'm not sure how to sharpen it? One website suggested using a grinding stone in a pillar...

    oak box and lid conundrum

I'll second that. A cider press is on my list of projects. 100 gallons? My hat's off to you!

    oak box and lid conundrum

Nice box, and nice to see another wine maker on the forum! Got anything brewing at the mo?

Sewing table - wall mounted drop down

Simplest design that springs to mind is like a gate-leg table. Lift up the flap, swing out the leg, et voila. This could work with your "shelves behind" idea?

    Upholstery websites?

I'd like to make a chaise longue for the conservatory, and have some basic plans thrashed out for the frame. However, I've never attempted upholstery. Before I cheat and buy a memory foam mattress for the seat and back, can anyone recommend any websites teaching how to do it "properly"? And it...

    Today - A play day!

I can't believe you made that table in a day! My hat off to you! Would take me that long to measure up.

    Bargain tools

My JCB 4.5" grinder is still going strong, after many hours of use, so I really can't knock it. Also got a JCB jigsaw, which does what I ask it, and feels quite sturdy.

    Noddy rebate plane question

Thanks all for the answers. I've been having a look a 2nd-hand ones, and seen various blades for sale separately. Will (for example) Record plough plane blades be usable in the body of another make, or would I need to source it all of the same make? Thanks again

    Noddy rebate plane question

Much obliged, sounds like I need a plough rather than a rebate plane then (or both - now you're talking!). Cheers!

    Noddy rebate plane question

Apologies if any of the following is stupid, but... I want to use more hand tools, and would like a rebate plane (I mean something like the all-steel Record 778, rather than the older wooden-bodied ones). Are several different plane bodies required to have e.g. a narrow blade and a wide one, or...

    Rebating architrave

I wasn't aware of that, thanks for the heads up. Note to self - stop licking the walls. Thanks all for the replies. Should keep me out of mischief for a while.

    minature furniture

I think Hobby's (or Hobbies? I forget which) used to do plans for dolls house furniture. No idea if they still do.

    Reclaimed timber

Sounds interesting, Dave. Any pics? I wasn;t aware you could get hardwood pallets - are these common/rare?

    Rebating architrave

We've just fitted a double door frame where the previous occupants had ripped it all out. I now need to fit architrave to tidy up. The frame is level with the plasterwork at the sides, so that bit's easy-peasy. Unfortunately, above the frame has been artexed (I really love those former...

My first project thread - please be gentle!

Thanks. I think the photo makes it look a bit top-heavy - the feet are the same width as the top of the legs, which is on;y a wee bit narrower than the width of the top (if that made sense). Looks like my photography needs practice, along with my woodwork!

    Yew'll be sorry.

I like that a lot. Nice work.

My first project thread - please be gentle!

Hello, I've probably c*cked up attaching the pic, so apologies in advance. Also, apologies for the lack of building up photos, but I forgot to take any. Anywho, we bought a "teak" garden table and chairs from Homebase, which are fine (very comfy, in fact), but the table is a wee bit small for...

    long clamping straightedges

Apologies, I'm not sure if these have a specific name (and if so, what it is)... I'm after one of those straight-edges that have a clamp at either end. Some have a slot along them to accept routers etc. However, the longest I can find is about 1200mm, whereas I want/need one 1400mm+. I know I...
