food-safe wood - browns and reds

Hi I know beech & maple are common timbers for chopping boards, but I've got an idea for a design that involves a red and pale blonde-y motif, set in to a board of a different colour (probably brown, as we're talking about wood). The pale wood is easy - probably beech - but can people suggest...

    Patchy paint

Have you tried covering it with an oil-based paint, then going back over that with your emulsion? Had to do that previously where someone had written on (unpainted) lining paper with a permanent marker, which once painted, kept grinning through the white emulsion. Painted over the area with...

Replacement Mitre guage for a record power Bandsaw?

Not sure if this would help, but what about drilling and tapping, and using a grub screw to force the bar up, so it's tighter against the top of the channel? Without seeing your machine, I don't know if that would eliminate the movement you're experiencing, but may be more long-lasting fix, and...

Preventing metal from tarnishing - any tips?

I'm putting this in the woodworking section becuase I want to incorporate metal in to some wood designs, e.g. bands of copper in wooden candlesticks. I can polish it up beforehand, but don't want to have to smear metal polish over the finished wooden item/s, if it tarnishes at a later date. I...

    Woodworking joinery programmes

I only caught one episode, and I can't remember the name, so apologies if it's already been covered... It was on one of the further downn freeview channels (like Challenge, etc). A big bald biker-type (he had a trike in the episode I saw) built a french farmhouse-style wardrobe out of reclaimed...

Not sure what it's going for these days, but I bought a Jet JWBS9 from Axminster for about £100, a couple of years ago.

Haven't bought the spanners currently offered, but I got a set of swan-neck spanners from Lidl previously, which are still going strong.

    crook/spoon knife blank

Can anyone suggest where I can get a crook knife blank? I'm on a budget, so hoping to get one for £20-ish. Tried searching, but can't find any blanks. Apologies if this should be posted elsewhere. Thanks

    chess board vaneering

I seem to recall Hobby's magazine (years ago) selling kits for making chess boards. Might be a good place to start? Unless they've stopped selling them. ;-)

I look forward to (hopefully) one day being able to "bodge" as well as that!

Vietnamese Hand made craft stand at Bury Market

Although I generally despise football, the colour and grain pattern on the wooden one make it rather attractive.

    What's a good morticer for a beginner?

If you want to remove the bulk of waste, and then finish off by hand, have you considered a pillar drill and forstner bit/s? A potential advantage is you then have a pillar drill, for whatever else you may like to use one for. I got mine from Axminster for about £60. That's the method I used...

    oil stone and sharpening knives

I it's not too cheeky/breaking any rules, can I ask what you paid for the slipstone, and where you got it? I'm on the look-out for one at the mo. Thanks

spray foam on metal garage roof

I bought mine as a complete unit, which the vendor assembled on my (pre-prepared) concrete slab. It came with the metal roof as standard. Not having had one before, I wasn't sure what to expect, but over winter, condensation was a complete pain. My Dad's garage has the concrete-type roof, and...

spray foam on metal garage roof

Hi I want someone to spray foam on the inside of my metal garage roof, to avoid condensation build-up. Has anyone had this done? If so, can you advise by whom, and how much it cost? I'm in Bucks, and the garage is 20' by 10' Many thanks
