When you're up a tree or in some other awkward position it's a pain if the saw won't cut straight because it takes more time and effort to complete the cut.

True enough, and it's going to be a painted finish in any case.

Cheers. They're not to length yet, although one hasn't got much spare. However they're going to be mitred with the bead on the outside, so there's a bit of waste in any case, so long as I don't lose the place and forget which way round the mitre's being cut.

Maybe not easy to see in the picture but the part is not a pure L shape, the top part has quite an overhang. It also needs to slide fore and aft, but the bottom part just has threaded holes for the main assembly to fix, so that's where I'm going to try and shim.

What about PEG, that chemical that wood turners use to soak green wood in?

I'm going to try and bodge something, because I need to use the saw. It won't be a long term or even medium term solution because it'll be yet another bit that needs to be faffed around with every time I set the guides.
