    Bandsaw blade suppliers (again!)

Hi Ed We actually use a few different manufacturers because we've found that different manufacturers are better at producing certain types of blades. We purchase material from America, Germany and the UK and we only purchase quality material. Obviously I don't want to name the actual...

Anyone tried Silverline expert sash cramps?

They are really good - excellent value for money and if you are not happy with them then they have a pretty good returns policy :D I haven't tried the new pro range of power tools, but most of their power tools used to be fairly rubbish - I think the new pro range have a 3 year guarantee so...

    Mini grinder advice. Please

Hi Trev, Sorry to hear about your health problems. I can't speak from personal experience but I was talking to a wood carver a while back and he uses the Arbortech range and spoke very highly of them. Some of the work that he's producing is amazing and he's used the Arbortech range for...

    Bulk purchases

I've been a bit busy lately so have only just found this thread! If there's anything that I can do regarding the bulk purchasing then I would gladly get involved. I know that my time will be very limited in the next couple of months but if there's any interest in bulk purchasing on any of the...

    Identifying bandsaw model

The 54 1/2" machines are older than the BK1, 2 & 3 machines which all use a 56 1/2" blade. 14tpi should be ok for aluminium but it really depends on the thickness of the aluminium - if you find that the blade clogs up easily try a 10tpi blade and I would use a slow cutting speed and some...

    Had enough of Tenon Saws!!

We sharpen saws for about 5 local schools/colleges and they send them in for sharpening during the holidays. One of them has just asked about hardpoint tenon saws so they might be going down that road which is a shame. One of the colleges use Disston tenon saws and they are really well looked...

    Had enough of Tenon Saws!!

Hi Aled I will be back in work on the 15th of September and hopefully my hands will have stopped hurting by then! No wonder my hands are still hurting - shame I couldn't charge per tooth :D I put a motor on the re-toother so it would re-cut a tenon saw in just under 2 minutes so it didn't...

    Identifying bandsaw model

Hi Jim I'm not sure what model you have but Burgess made a few machines that used a 54 1/2" blade and they were: BB53 BB55 BBS 3 BBS 4 BBS 5 The only other small Burgess that I'm aware of is a Burgess Mini that uses a 42 1/2" blades so I can't see it being that one. It's possible that the...

    Had enough of Tenon Saws!!

No - can't do that, let the lovely students abuse their saws as it's more work for us :D

    Had enough of Tenon Saws!!

Thank you both - can't wait for a break, weather looks terrible but it's a week away and apparently you've got to expect rain on a holiday in the Lake District! Pretty much guarantee that when I come back there will be a pile more tenon saws waiting for me though!! Ian

    Had enough of Tenon Saws!!

I used a re-toother to re-cut all the new teeth in which saved a lot of time but all the setting and sharpening was done by hand/eye. No hand or tenon saws for me for at least 2 weeks :D

    Had enough of Tenon Saws!!

Would have done them a bit faster but had to stop for a cup of tea or two

    Had enough of Tenon Saws!!

Well for the time being anyway! Just finished sharpening 86 Tenon Saws and hopefully it will be a long time before we get this amount in again! All the saws are from a couple of local colleges and had to be back in time for start of the new term. Going on holiday on Friday so at least I can...

    Jokes

Wedding Dress Son asked his mother the following question: 'Mam, why are wedding dresses white?' The mother looks at her son and replies, 'Son, this shows your friends and relatives that your bride is pure..' The son thanks his Mam and goes off to double-check this with his father...

Meat and Fish Band Saw Blades- Appraisal

Rod - We haven't got any meat and fish blades in stock but the blades that Kenneth tried are Thin Kerf blades which are made to the same thickness as meat and fish blades but not from the shiny bandsaw material. They are very similar to the meat and fish type blades but designed for wood...

    Bandsaw "Wavy" cuts

If the blade is rubbish then your just wasting your time trying to get the machine set up properly as no matter what you do the blade will just wander all over the place. It's surprising how much difference a decent blade can make on any machine. With bandsaws it can be really frustrating...

    Planer Blades

I haven't tried a micro bevel (yet!), but usually grind the angle to 35 degrees for hardwood. Ian

    Planer Blades

Have you tried having the blades ground to a lesser angle? It can make a difference having the angle of the blades ground and you should have a different angle on planer blades for hardwood. Ian

    Which Band Saw

What about this one: http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Axmi ... 462917.htm It's got 2 speeds which is a bonus and I know a couple of people with this bandsaw that have been very pleased with it. The blade that comes with it is rubbish though and with a decent blade on it it's not a bad...

    HDR Photography

Hi Smudger - I took the original shot in RAW and then converted one photo +2 EV, 1 photo -2 EV and one normal exposure and then merged the 3 photos and that was pretty much it! Because they were done using JPEG's then you lose some of the details and apparently you get much better results using...
