    Spraying water based gloss

I have been experiment with spraying some Wickes water based gloss onto MDF with an earlex HVLP system. I have coated with two coats of primer with a roller. After some trial and error i have been spraying the gloss at 20% dilution which has gone on great and looks good. However......... after...

    Dakota Router Table

For me personally i prefer to make furniture rather than make jigs and tools. So i for one would buy a half decent router table, use it to see how you operate and then in a year or two upgrade or make your own. I have little spare time and i see it as a time is money value question. I maybe get...

    Which Pocket Hole Jig?

I have the kreg and it is brill. I have the full set and i think its worth the expense, the clamp on the front is really handy and works well. Owen

    Woodbloke in F&C

I too would second the opinion that the magazine is on the up. I generally read the magazines for inspiration and this issue did the trick. I am quite interested in finishing as it is a dark at to me. I personally prefer a really detailed look at one subject rather that a skim over of a broad...

    Bosch GSR12 Battery Life

Sonic I have the same drill for about the same time and i too felt they are not as good as they should be. I know they are 12volt etc but i have been quite disapointed with its performance in that respect. owen

    What have you learned today?

I learnt that steel sole boots are quite a good idea. Standing on a 3inch nailwhen knocking down a wall with nike trainers does not offer the same protection. I also learnt that your shoes really can fill with blood. Owen

    Guild of Master Craftsmen

I am a letting agent and I hire a lot of contractors. The master craftsman stuff has never swayed me. The two I did hire with the mark were the worst I used they couldn't give a toss about there work. I stick to old skool recommendations now.

    'Shop Time?

I have a fairly standard 8.30- 6pm job as i have no kids I am quite lucky in the hobby time stakes. I normally get a 1/2 day or full day on the weekend and an evening or two a week. With the weather picking up I have the competion between going climbing and woodworking. Plus I have just started...

    Spraying walls

I am aware this is a little bit obtuse way of coating a wall but i thought it would be a good way to get some spray practise in. Owen

    Spraying walls

Thanks for that, I think i may well stick with the roller. The skirting boards and architrave have all been ripped off and I will be starting from new. Therefore I felt that as I could pop them on a saw horse and spray away to my hearts content. I really really hate brushing things as I always...

    Spraying walls

I am aware this is not strickly a woodworking question but bear with me. I have just bought a new house in a bad way and I am starting to get some work done. Obviously getting my garage/workshop done is a priority before the kitchen, bathroom or other such frivolity (wife not really understanding...

    Elm Cabinet II WIP

Looking good. It will be interesting see how the shaping softens the stand as at present it's a little linear. But the proprtion looks great and that is beautifull wood. I would be scared at this point after getting it all ready and one slip of a tool or rasp and it back to the drawing board...

Bandsaw vibration - how much is normal?

I had a similar problem and discovered I had a dodgy bearing and the alignment was out slightly. Also check the motor mounting as mine was incorectly attached. Finally check the weld on the bandsaw blade as this can add to the problem. I would however saw my bandsaw is at the budget end on the...

SIP 12" Table Saw (with Dado Cutter)

Just a small question?, what about the dedicated cutter heads that felder sell would they not bridge the gap, as they are limited and can give a better cut. Could dado users just get a set of these and reduce some risk.

    Equiping a new workshop

I have a Hammer B3 saw/spindle and I have only had it about 2 months. I am very happy with it. I have to say that the thicknesser bit adds alot to the width and looks a faff to change about. I think a saw spindle and a separate planer thicknesser is the way to go if you do go down the combi...
