    Guide rail accuracy

Slightly different option. My solution is 2 x 1.5m rails. Cut one 1.5m rail to make two sections (500mm + 1000mm) carefully with a hacksaw. Use the 1m with the standard 1.5m joined together for 8" x 4" sheets when required and the 500mm one for the occasional shorter cross cuts, also when...

Hand circular saw / plunge saw

I think you have made a very good point in the first line of your post. I am a huge fan of this forum for sharing knowledge, but it should be done with a degree of responsibility. For me, that goes to the heart of the whole Festool / Lamello debates on various tools, add in Lie Nielson etc for...

Hand circular saw / plunge saw

This review was a fairly balanced comparison of the Festool and Dewalt if it helps. http://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=94081

Hand circular saw / plunge saw

Yep, the Festool fan club are alive and kicking, only joking :D Festool make good tools, no doubt and I am not the worlds greatest fan of DeWalt. I only have the DeWalt DC352 plus the 621 router, all my other tools are Bosch, Makita, Hilti and Fein. But if you look on the american web sites...

Hand circular saw / plunge saw

I was really taken with a demo of the Mafell plunge saw with flexible track at a woodworking show earlier in the year. It was out of my league price wise and I started looking at alternatives. I thought that a cordless one would be handy for visits to the timberyard but again the Dewalt kit...

    Bosch or Makita?

A vote for Bosch I'm afraid. I have all the Bosch 10.8v range except the Multimaster copy (I have a Fein Multimaster already). They all perform well, the drill is a bit bigger than I would have liked but still much smaller than a "normal" full size one. Batteries are quick to recharge as...

well actually not a new topic

Budget restrictions are a reality for many of us. I had a lower power old "green" Bosch router that was a bit underpowered for my needs and I sold it on e-bay to help finance a new DeWalt 621 (great dust extraction design on this 1/4" router). However, once I had enough money for the new...

Bosch PMF 180E OR FEIN MULTIMASTER 250Q

I've got the earlier version of the Fein and have had it for a long time (before it became as popular and well known). I would not worry about the motor rating, it's a really good german designed and manufactured item. I have had an occasional problem with accessories slackening off as stated...

Makita 18v LXT broken power tool wanted - can anyone help?

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I know Engineering Agencies well (a fact my wife constantly reminds me off!). However I am not really looking for spares to fix one of my Makita tools, I am really looking for some parts to create something else! This is why I need the complete battery...

Makita 18v LXT broken power tool wanted - can anyone help?

Was not sure if I could post this here: I am looking for a broken Makita 18v Lithium Ion cordless power tool (new square brick type battery). It does not matter whether it's a drill or a torch or whatever as long as the part of the tool that locates the battery (contacts/ moulded slides /...

    Drill Driver

I would second the vote for the 18vLi Makita. I had a 12v NiCd Makita for many years but it was a bit light for some jobs and a bit heavy/overkill for screwdriving. Changed to an 18v Makita BHP451 / BTD140 Impact driver with Li batteries. Built a 13m x 5m long deck with them last year and...

    Elektra Beckum kgs 331 problem

I bought mine on e-bay as well and same problem. Nothing to add to Christof's reply other than to say that when cutting, keep the lock knob tightened up once the lever has clicked into place on the table detents (you probably know this already!). There are also adjustments for aligning the...

    12v drill

It's always a difficult choice to make when you are spending your hard earned money and want to make the right decision. I looked at the Makita 10.8v ones (shown in previous post) when I was over in the US on business last October and they looked and felt really good. I was already buying some...

Tormek T-7 review (versus Scheppach versions)

Gidon, Thanks, a very good and thorough review. I also considered the Tormek but went onto buy the Jet about a year ago, which has been excellent and well worth the money spent. I am sure most people would be happy with a good Tiger/Tormek/Jet system. As regards reviews on web sites like...

Question re Fein QA35E dust extractor

I have a Trend T30AF, I believe made by the same factory as the Fein. Very quiet and effective down to 0.5micron. Use it all the time and I believe its well regarded on this forum, so would be worth doing a search. Regards Nigel

    Record Power BS500 Bandsaw users

Still looking for a bandsaw to fit my needs (furniture making hopefully). Have gone through looking at most of the available bandsaws around £800 on the market (I know from the forum there are a few really good ones). Had originally looked at a Hammer N4400 but decided that it was too expensive...

My new Elektra Beckum KGS 331 Mitre saw.

My understanding is that this saw is not marketed in the US so the UK is the only outlet for the 110v brake, volume is therefore much lower and price is double. I can only say that a working saw with a good brake is really worth having. There are some really great mitre saws on the market, I...

My new Elektra Beckum KGS 331 Mitre saw.

If its the electric brake it is not too expensive to replace for the 240v version. My one is the 110v version (I also bought my KGS331 second hand for £75) and the brake is fine. The really helpful maintenance guy at Metabo UK explained the double price 110v brake being the only downside...

SDS drill - repair or replace?

Consider a secondhand Hilti SDS My TE12 was secondhand 15 years ago, absolutely bomb proof, does not look anything special but just drills holes with no real effort. You see them often on e-bay and soetimes the dealers have trade in available. An incredibly well built machine!!
