    Calling Kity 419 Owners

I’ve had a Kity 419 for a little under 5 years now. Generally it’s a competent machine and does most things I want. My major gripe is in changing the blade angle. It has a combination rise/fall/angle adjust hand wheel and when changing the angle the spring loaded hand wheel has to be pushed in...

    Knotting

Thanks Philly, - I'll give it a go. This stuff any good? http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp? ... e=1&jump=0 Any limitations to the finishes that can go on top? I'm not a shellac user so very new to me.

    Knotting

I've got some old 'pine type' timber knocked up into picture frames for a very choosey client (yes - her :D ). Despite its age (over 15 years) the machining appears to have 'woken up' the knots and other associated stickiness and I'm concerned about the potential for bleed through. Now I know...

Do I really need a table saw?

I've quite surprised myself by agreeing with you (apart from the fact that I've got a TS as well :D ) and despite having been looking at a new, upgraded, more powerful TS I now find myself tracking down a new bandsaw because I can do so much more with it. With a P&T by it's side you can do...

Record PT 260 versus Axminster AWEPT 106

Thanks Olly, - slightly nervous about buying without playing even if it is a good deal! Your last paragraph makes me want to almost worship at your feet :D The number of people who appear incredibly anal about thicknessing to 6 decimal places as if it's some sort of holy grail. Like you I...

Record PT 260 versus Axminster AWEPT 106

Just to throw another spanner in the works I've come across the Fox F22-568 for a very good price (£575 with free delivery) and I'm wondering what that's like? Trouble is it's in Kent so having a play before buying is impossible. It looks identical to the Axminster PT2 with an aluminum fence...

Record PT 260 versus Axminster AWEPT 106

£582 sounds good until you add on the (compulsory!) delivery of £50. I wouldn't mind (too much) if it wasn't for the fact I live 20 minutes away and could pick it up in (cough) the wifes car.

Record PT 260 versus Axminster AWEPT 106

I don't suppose that in the years since you had problems they've made any upgrades? Must admit to not playing with the fence at the time so I'll add it to my list to things to do before considering final purchase.

Record PT 260 versus Axminster AWEPT 106

Shortage of space is forcing me to change from a thicknesser and surface planer (only a perform) to a combined machine. Had a close look at the Record at Yandles and though it a reasonably decent bit of kit (I so nearly used the plastic!). Easy to change modes and large enough capacity for my...

    Triton stand at Yandles

I specifically asked about stock levels etc. and was told (quite forcefully!) that they had plenty in Yeovil and apart from some of the 'higher end' stuff there were no longer any supply problems. I guess we'll just have to wait and see? Thought the price of the 'big' router (£186) was quite...

    Generic drawers

I've started to use poplar quite sucessfully. Nice, easy to machine timber and takes dovetail well. Generally buy a large slab from Yandles and then machine to suit whatever I'm making.

Does that really work? Never heard it before.

New Business Opportunity for Wood Turners?

TOO LATE!!!  The internet nazis here will enjoy that one!

    Be careful with your woodworking....

Two things: What on earth was he doing to have that happen? The only thing I can think of is a rather vicious kick back. I nearly lost the end of my finger to such an event. I would like to know what he was doing purely for personal protection reasons!! Secondly: I don't think so!!

    "Table Saw Accident Week"

I remain constantly amazed at the Spams and their approach to machinery guarding. If it's even remotely suggested then they tend to rally against it as though someone was threatening the constitution (It's my God given right to feed myself through a circular saw!!). For a so called advanced...

Router Table Router ? or Table Router Router or ....

Does the Freud have as good above table bit changing as the Triton? Like others I think the table mounted Triton is a great bit of kit (it does have some issues) but that bit changing really is the dogs danglies. Lost count of the number of skinned knuckles before I got it. If I can have above...

    How to sharpen?

Thanks for all the useful advice. I think I'll probably invest in the scary sharp system and then just spend time 'playing' with it. A final question though. I understand the grinding and honing bit but is there any magic way of determing when you need to regrind? Does it wait until the edge...

    How to sharpen?

For as long as I can remember I've been pretty cr@p at sharpening. Only the purchase of a Tormek meant I could stop using a lump hammer with chisels  Trouble is I now wait until they are as blunt as old boots (usually after opening the fifth tin of paint!) and then put them pack on the...

    Mortiser

I too have one of these and find it generally quite a good machine. Like many I think I need to invest in either some better bits or some sharpening! Given that most of my stuff is small the jaw travel is fine for me. No problems with tightness when clamping although i do tend to wind it up a...

What he said!! I reckon they'd sell a few of those ( well - at least two!!).
