    Hi Viz...

Speaking in gross generalisations, motorcyclists can be split into two broad groups. There are the big serious bikes for long distance travel such as pretty much any BMW, goldwings, deuvilles etc. These tend to be ridden by a slightly older biker, long distance commuters etc. I would also add to...

    Dust!

Following on from my thread in general woodworking, where some may not venture often, do any of you extract from your scrollsaws or do you just let it fall / be blown off the table with the blower? I am redesigning my workshop with a view to putting in dust extraction properly, and considering...

    Dust extraction advice

Thanks for the responses. I hadn't considered turbulence from corrugated hose to be honest - I thought the flexibility of it would aid me in my machine positioning but if that is to the detriment of airflow then that would be a shame. For those of you that use the 63mm kit from Axminster for...

    Dust extraction advice

The dust in my workshop/cellar is starting to get annoying, and being based in a cellar I cannot simply open a door or window and sweep/tip it out! So a serious think about decent dust extraction is required. I am in the fortunate position that the whole cellar is going to be turned into proper...

We get it at work from Sigma Aldrich, but I am not sure whether they sell to the public or not. Steve.

    Computer or T square

I can do either sketchup or technical drawings on paper. I am not particularly proficient at sketchup since I find that unless I continually tinker with it I tend to forget how to do things. Very difficult to forget how to use a ruler though! Personally I don't think you are missing out if you...

    Argument!

This link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eu_anthem will give you more information than you ever wanted to know! First proposed in 1971 apparently. Steve.

    Poor english

But why do we assume that if they do not have a good command of English they are a bad doctor, but if they demonstrate a poor ability at Maths the same assumtion is not made? I teach medical students on a daily basis as a job, some have good English some poor, but there is no correlation I have...

    Argument!

Not sure of its relevance, but its actually a poem by Schiller, which was then set to music by Beethoven as part of the 4th movement of his 9th symphony. Steve.

    Poor english

You miss my point - they are only poorly educated in English, not necessarily poorly educated in everything. The BBC news website did a feature recently on why it is seen as almost cool, and certainly acceptable, to be seen as poor in Maths but not English. (this was in relation to Maths...

    Poor english

Hmm, why is it that we equate poor English with poor education? One could be a spectacular mathematician, intelligent beyond belief, yet if your written prose is inaccurate the assumption is that you are lacking a good education. Apart from the issue of dyslexia, and the issue of typing slower...

Many thanks for all the advice, have ordered the F6 with a bike mount. Now anyone know where I can get some motivation.... Steve.

    Soundproofing a roof

Do you have gravel or chippings on the felt? I have seen these added with a bitumen layer to act as a barrier for both wind and rain protection, the wind does not lift the felt edges so badly and the gravel gives an irregular surface to stop rain drops 'splatting' onto a flat one. Not sure about...

standing up or sitting down ?

Standing for me - I like to look down on the work, probably because I wear glasses and cannot see for toffee! Steve.

    Abbreviations....

Most of the medical ones are now urban myth rather than in common parlance - main reason is patients can now request to see their notes and writing TUBE - totally unecessary breast examination - or PFO - pissed fell over - can lead to a few problems for the doc! Steve.

    TDF '08 and query

Indeed, I was following the live feed on www.letour.com but didnt post in case you liked to watch the ITV4 coverage without knowing  Gotta be a contender for a victory in Paris also if he can survive the Alps, but with Beijing on his mind I have a sneaky feeling he might drop the tour for...

    TDF '08 and query

Aye, lets hope he is a clean rocket! No reason to doubt otherwise, seeing him and Bradley Wiggins in the Madison at the world track championships it was all I could do not to stand and applaud at the TV - putting the lap on everyone within the last 10 laps took phenomenal strength and speed...

Thanks for that Phil, sounds like you are far more advanced than me! I am using the bike as a fitness tickover tool while I cannot play squash, but want to make best use of it during that time. I think the F6 will be fine for what I am after. Many thanks for your detailed response. 6 hours in...

Any keen cyclists out there? Anyone taking an interest in the Tour de France this year? I am getting back into cycling for fitness at the moment (after mangling my elbow playing squash) and wondered if anyone had experience of a heart rate monitor for fitness? I will be doing alot of turbo...

    Buying books online?

let www.froogle.co.uk be your friend! I use this, then search ebay (watch for shipping charges) and use that as a starting point for shopping around. Even comet et al are cheaper from online than in store - sometimes considerably so! Steve.
