What's this cyclone powertool site vac?

Does anyone know anything about this vac? Seen one working? There's no maker's plate or label, who made it? It's about 230mm dia, and the orange cylcone is ~500mm tall. The black vac motor on top couples directly to the cylone by way of an internal pleated filter, about 400 x 100 mm dia. When...

    vacuum pressing

When looking for a vac pump at the right price, I was thinking about a vac brake pump from a commercial vehicle. Black taxis used to have one (vane pump) that was belt driven. Area to be explored further when time allows.

    Kitchen Cabinets

A fall of greater thatn 1 in 100 is usually taken to be the limit if you want to keep solids and liquids flowing together (greater fall can leave the solids behind) This is the figure used in agriculture, and I bet the building regs have one for domestic drainage.

    Mafell ksp 55f

I've had a Mafell and ali guide rail for about 5 years, (comment v Festool in the 'rate Festool saws' and some other 'portable scoring saw' posts. I chose it for cutting sheet goods, & best build quality at a less dramatic price than Festool and an ability to score cut; it hasn't given any cause...

    Rate Festo circular saws

I have tried both Festool and Mafell, and bought the latter, as also very well made plunge saw, and a less dramatic price. It lacks the Festool chip contollers, whish work well when new, but this is bettered (IMHO) by double cutting - shallow climb cut from far side to near, full cut back again...

    Scrapers

Tilgear carry a range of cobalt HSS (metalwork) lathe tool blanks, including round ones. Quite a bit harder than a screwdriver stem! Just right for making the burnisher in the link above. (Parting tool blanks should be about right for bespoke marking knives, too)

    Axminster lookalike Tite-mark

True, the shape of the (copy's) brass head could be better; pity we can't buy a titemark for just forty quid (US price).

    Axminster lookalike Tite-mark

**Check if the Rutland's Dakota model has gone the same way!** Steel screw: Look for a nut/bolt supplier in yellow pages, probably under 'fixings'. If you can't find one, use a v sharp chisel to slice off a small plug from a thickish O ring, and trap it under the metal screw, so's compressed...

Customer Care Survey 01 - Rutlands ***RESULT*** 5.63

Apears OK if goods in stock AND if correctly described. Have had to work too hard when when things went wrong, so no more than 4. By contrast, Ax's after sales has never faulted in over 20 years.

    Axminster bandsaw SBW4300WL

13A may be marginal and lead to v hot fuse and burned plug syndrome. I have the '53 model which pops 13A fuses on run up. Start load will vary with blade size (stiffness) Voltage drop in inadequate cable can result in motor overheating. I definitely need a 16A supply to run up the nice Dragon 1"...

    DW621 - 12mm guide bush?

The trend 625 lookalike has an adjustable bush holder (for accurate concentricity). This fits the 625 directly, or the 621 with a bit of filing. thus you can use Trend/Axminster standard 60mm bushes which are available in all sizes in 1mm increments. The Trend bush holder is around a fiver as a...

Had mine out 30 yrs ago; 'er indoors may be pleased to learn that it makes you a bit less good at digesting fat..... No keyhole stuff in my day, have scar 8 ins long, good 2 months before any gentle planing possible! Digestion-wise she'll not miss it one bit.

If you want to see why Scrit is doing it to us...

My (non sliding) mitre can jump unexpectedly when started and stopped if it's not at either extreme (hard up or down) - it's the reaction to rapid start up of motor's rotation (no soft start) or heavy braking (the electric brake). Not a good idea but easy to trigger (even tho' I'm aware of the...

    The Beast has landed.

Oh dear, Byron, the pictures look pretty awful to me, unless of course you had opted to buy a rather shop soiled machine at a very hefty discount. This saw is most definitely NOT in 'new' condition, which is what you've paid for. Dealing with this sort of thing leaves a very sour taste in the...

1/2" Router advice please : Axminster or Dewalt or ???

I have a Ryobi in the router table, was my first router, not very good plunge - columns appear machined with quite rough surface. My 625 has smooth ground columns and thus handles much easier. The Ryobi runs well but and looks very sturdy but actually has smaller bearings in it then the 625. The...
