    New Jet P/T fences

Waka, on the wrong side of 60 I grew up with 35mm; we do have a vest pocket digital jobbie but we're not into filling cyberspace with fuzzy shots of aunt Edith and little Johnny etc- so I have nowhere to host a pic. The replacement is exactly as the old, but with a machined (and it looks like...

    Festool Vacuum Rip Off!

Mafell certainly made/make routers for Festool, and some of their own bear a passing (not identical, but definitely brotherly) resemblance to the Festool range. It's quite possible that all Festool mfg. is contracted out.

Chaiwanese bandsaw upgrades - blade guides

Burgess' model makers bandsaw had a combined guide/thrust wheel thus. I think Carter in the US sell something similar (but ball bearing based) especially for very narrow blades where lateral guides have little to bear on.

    Rutalands japanese chisels

UK chisels and blades used to be laminated once, began becuase steel was costly compared to iron. Nowadays most chisels and blades are not forged from multiple hammer blows, but by one almighty smelt. The steel in the resulting chisel etc has a coarser grain structure (the tiny crystals that...

    New Jet P/T fences

Finally had time to fit one of the new "machined face" fences** on my jpt-310 p/t; unlike the earlier plain extrusion, this one is as flat as one could wish for. ** replacement courtesy of Jetman via this forum. See earier posts on this subject. Most excellent service from Jet, thakyou Jetman!

    Anglepoise Magnifier Light?

Google for Shesto, they do a very nice one with twin fluorescents, more workshop sturdy than average.

    rojek - advice please

Have a hunt round at Taunton.com in the Fine Woodworking section. I'm pretty sure they've featured Rojek P/Ts and a combination- panel saw/shaper/planer. You can acess some tool reviews without having to pay a subscription. Memory says they said that SMC and Felder etc had more clever design...

    Sanding discs for Festool ROS

Do Mirka do a 125mm 9 hole disk? (I can only find 150)

    rojek - advice please

Rojek comes up in FW from time to time, sound well made but a bit agricultural - maybe something on the Taunton website?

RECORD BANSAW BS350S PROBLEM CUTTING 100MM HARDWOOD

I don't think your saw is heavy enough to tension a 3/4 blade. Even 5/8 may be difficult as it is just as thick as the 3/4. Meat and Fish blades are popular as the blade is often thinner and so easier to tension. 1/2 inch blades are thinner than 3/4 or 5/8 and probably more suited to this saw...

    Visual Aids for shrpening back-saws.

We've got one with a small fluorescent tube each side of the rectangular lens, it came from Shesto who supply the watch/jewelry trade. http://www.shesto.co.uk/p210/Rectangula ... _info.html

    fume extraction & air filtration

What fumes do you want to get rid of? Activated charcoal filters have a limited life (they carry on absorbing stuff from the air unless you put them in a poly bag) which is a lot more practical for a face mask - and probably a lot cheaper!

    Metabo v festool sanders

I think FW did a test that put the Festool prety much at the top for dust collection and handling. A dual orbit Metabo lookalike got best value, but was regarded as too heavy for vertical use (Festool is very light). The 125 Festool got the clapometer in the smaller size. I have this one, very...

Tormek T-7 review (versus Scheppach versions)

Not a good idea to move the rest after dressing the stone - if you want to use the honing wheel or the alternative 'trailing' grinding position, get a second tool rest.

    Bench Grinder tool rests

The Ax one is quite good, but the Veritas tool holder is the only one with a pin so setting 90 deg is very easy.

    de-walt guide

I had a quick try with the DW version at a show recently. struck me as more of a site tool than the Mafell (which I've got) or the Festool, which are more in the cabinetmaking league (but just as robust). If you must have cordless have a look at Mafell. I thought the DW guide was a bit flimsy.

    Back bevel sharpening

Thanks WF, unfortunately I don't have acess to those copies. There are some picures from japanese research through the link above, and there's a precis of a thesis in the back of Lee's sharpening book. I'm pretty sure there's nothing showing the changes in shaving formation as bedding angle...

    Moving away from waterstones

Bars of compound do dry out and become difficult to transfer even to a high speed wheel. Because they're wax based, you can use 'er indoors grater on them and dissolve the flakes in white spirit to make a soft paste, or even liquid. Depending on the surface of your strop, a light coating of...

    Back bevel sharpening

The scraper's hook is emulated by the tip of the plane's blade and the leading edge of the cap iron - have a look here Presumably at very high bedding angles the angle the shaving is turned by just the blade alone, is big enough that a close set cap iron is not needed (advice from DC, above)...
