Power of Attorney - just a Heads Up to say ...

Technically the moment anyone dies all assets are frozen pending the probate. Assuming the will is not complicated (my brother and I were only beneficiaries) some banks etc are easier to deal with than others. TSB were a pain but, I went to mums branch bank and the manager sorted everything for...

Personally I prefer books to the tube thingy. I think Matthew of workshop heaven did a good one. I find Paul sellars “difficult “ watch, even though I use pretty much the same techniques as him in most instances.

    Log burner

The bungalow we are doing up is on an estate of bungalows, as a consequence most of our neighbours are knocking on a bit. I am 66 and relatively a young un . Apparently a few years ago one of the neighbours did a diy stove installation and nearly burned the place down  just ran the...

    Heating and insulation

    Log burner

Following on from the heating oil thread........... Sometime in the next six months, we will be buying a log burner, mainly for free heat from scavenged wood but also as a backup if the power fails. Obviously I will be buying from an reputable company, but would like some background...

    Stripping

My neighbour has a turned spindle child’s chair he is doing up. It’s a horrible brown coloured varnish. Anyone recommend a paint stripper for the job? There are lots of spindles all with undercuts so it’s no good hand or lathe sanding it. By the way, I am interested in what wood it might be...

    Bending Ply - recommendations

What about hardboard? I think if you rested the wood on a row of house bricks along either long edge and then more on top but in the middle it would sag sufficiently in a few days.

    Material for a plane handle/tote?

I have made a few. I tend to make them a bit thicker and slightly oblong along the plane length axis if you see what I mean. As others say the hole is the most difficult part. Also ensure that the grain runs right. Somewhere on the internet there is a useful drawing. Someone here will know...

    Boarding a loft.

Yes it is and some neighbours have done so. BUT if it’s a nice accessible room, her majesty will requisition it. This way I have storage for my fishing tackle, books, photography kit etc etc

    Boarding a loft.

Been measuring. I am restricted as to when I can get in as I have builders there. Joist centres are 450mm. As I will keep the floor a reasonable distance from the eves. My total floor area is 9 x5 metres.

How much will this cost me

Come on lads lets lighten up. No squabbling and backbiting amongst friends.

    Boarding a loft.

Thanks for the suggestions, food for thought. Will check the joists centres. I realise that the insulation might get a bit compressed but it is a downside I am prepared to tolerate. Later when I have more time,I might add further insulation underneath the roof itself as is done for proper...

    Chuck.. Again....

Just interested, is Norwegian vat more than 20% Also I had assumed that GB£ has collapsed in much the same way. Yes I am a fan. I think there are a few of us here. I was lucky in that I frequently worked quite close to toolpost and thus avoided delivery charges, but on the other hand, spent...

    Chuck.. Again....

Being in Norway, do you need to pay U.K. vat? I thought one reason toolpost (who sell the versa chuck) listed vat separate was that they had a thriving export market. Costs aside the versa chuck is excellent, I have had one for over ten years and have added various jaws over that time...
