Irwin spoke shaves - worth keeping or not?

So assuming that MMUK is being a tad disingenuous (that's the longest word I've ever used on this forum) these are worth keeping. Now I just need some advice on how to get them 'fettled' and working OK. Any takers…..?

Irwin spoke shaves - worth keeping or not?

Hi chaps. Just thought I'd ask the advice of you hand tool pros..... I've got these two Irwin Spokeshaves - one flat and the other con(vex?) I 've hardly used them, but recently decided I'd have a go and see how I got on with them. Now, I know next to nothing about these things, and have tried...

    Oak Dining Table

Thanks for your comments guys - all much appreciated. Mick, I myself am a bit unsure about the lower H frame. I added for precisely the reason you stated, but I do think it clutters the overall design of what is basically a straightforward table. xy - it does indeed take some shifting, and I'm...

    Oak Dining Table

In the spirit of the earlier post about not enough projects being uploaded to the showcase, here's one I made a couple of months ago. I haven't put it on the showcase because I don't have any photos of it in its completed state. Anyway, for your entertainment..... The table was made...

    Project showcase not used enough

I agree with Grayorm. However, as carpenter who likes to try his hand at the finer side of woodworking most of my projects end up looking like firewood. I've yet to make anything I'm really proud of. I'll happily post some pictures of my abject disasters if it lowers the standard enough for...

    1st arbortech project - legoman

Is the mix of Red Bull and Robinsons in the background of that last pic the reason for your strange but excellent choice of woodworking projects? Just asking.

    Is redwood food safe?

I'd imagine that all that nasty stuff is due to the dust. Once you've worked the wood and it's effectively inert I can't see how it would hurt you. I once attended an HSE sponsored training class about Asbestos, and this guy was banging on about how it's only the dust or fibres that are harmful...

    Frozen Shoulder?

I did realise after posting that the OP might not appreciate the humour, so sorry if it was inappropriate. I suffer from serious elbow pains and extremely dodgy knee joints, so I understand the pain and frustration caused when bits of you stop working as they should. Roast Pork does help take...

    Frozen Shoulder?

My only experience of Frozen Shoulder was with a nice joint of rare breed pork. 3 hours in a slow oven sorted it out nicely

    Kitchen cabinet questions.

I've been asked by a client to build some kitchen cabinets and doors and they have specified materials based on something they read on the inter web. http://britishstandardcupboards.co.uk/the-kitchen I am unsure as to why Melamine faced birch ply would be considered to be better than MDF, and...

    Workshop piccys

Thanks for your comments guys. Max - it was originally designed as an office space for up to six people and therefore I maximised the footprint. Because of this I could not get the height over 2.5m at the highest point due to planning. With six inch joists and the rest of the flat roof build up...

    Japanese Saws

I bought a Hassunme flush cut saw from Axi last week. It cost £31.60 and came with a free Rip blade. I also bought a crosscut blade with it. I haven't used either the rip or crosscut yet - just the flush cutting blade and I have to saw its chuffin' marvellous.

    Axminster TS-200 problem

This may be obvious, but have you blown a fuse? Either at the plug or on the main board.

    Workshop piccys

I originally built this as an office for my building business, but just as the build was finished so was the business!! DOH! So now it's my fledgling workshop. It measures about 12.5m by 5.5m. At one end is a small 'office' and the garden storage. There's also a small loo (yet to be fitted)...

    Workbench

IMHO it'll be fine for a workbench. I've got a bench made from old softwood sleepers taken from a clients garden when we demolished her extension. I know the yanks make a big fuss about workbench materials, but as long as it's flat and level and solid, pretty much anything will be OK. As for...

    Rabbit shaped knife block

That is without doubt the most mental thing I've ever seen on a woodworking forum. I doubt I'll sleep properly tonight. Love it.

    Hanging doors

Hopefully this question won't start a 'sharpening style' riot.... When hanging doors how do you place your hinges? Do you line up the edge of the hinge leaf with the edge of the door, thus leaving all of the hinge barrel protruding, or do you set the leaf inboard? I was taught to fold the hinge...

    Joining Sleepers?

I built a retaining wall that was about 45m long by just under a metre high for a client last summer. First sleeper went into a shallow trench on a concrete base, haunched up the sides a bit to stop it moving around. Then a hole was drilled and a length of rebar pounded through into the ground...

    Piano Stool/Bench plans.

Thanks for the info/advice guys. I've decided (after consultation with SWMBO) that I'll build a two person bench, with the seat split into two halves, each half adjustable independently. I have a cunning plan (sort of) for how to do this without resorting to screws or scissor jacks. Due to a...
