    Tuffsaws bandsaw blades - speechless.

What I don't get is why Bandsaw manufacturers don't ship their products with blades this good. It can't add much to the overall cost - the 1/2" blade I got from Ian was £13.50 ex VAT. It would make their saws instantly appear so much better. There must be hundreds if not thousands of users who...

If you could teach your younger self ONE thing

I'd tell myself to stick to doing what you love, and don't chase the money or status. I trained as joiner but ended up owning and running a large construction company doing very prestigious work. I liked having a new Beemer every year but HATED being responsible for such a behemoth of a...

    Recommendations for a mortice gauge?

Tell it like it is - don't hold back. Thanks for confirming what I thought David. I'll square the little bugger up and cut a new knife and wedge for it.

Maybe its not friction at all. I'm no physicist but I've often noticed that two smooth flat surfaces together are hard to move. Two panes of float glass for example. Lay one flat on the other and then try and slide the top one without touching the edge (just the top) - it can sometimes seem as...

    Tuffsaws bandsaw blades - speechless.

I also got the 1" SuperTuff Premium "Ripper" 1.3 tpi (an evil looking thing - the apprentice calls it Satans necklace!!) and the 1/2" SuperTuff Fastcut - not sure of the tpi on this one. £60 inc vat and delivery for the three.

Work holding help for a new turner needed

Thanks Marcros. Good to see that someone appreciates my 'art'.  Seriously though I wonder how many people when they first get their lathe just go around the workshop trapping bits of wood and making them round and then calling them mallets or candlesticks? I'd never thought of...

    Tuffsaws bandsaw blades - speechless.

Thanks Steve. All you have to do to join the club it seems is talk with a very nice and knowledgable Welshman and then give him some money. S'easy!!

Work holding help for a new turner needed

You're quite right. But I think you're failing to take into account the stunning array of mostly round objets d'art shown in the first post. I think you'd agree that they more than justify the purchase...........no?

Work holding help for a new turner needed

Thanks for the advice guys. The knob I'm trying to turn at the moment is a replacement for my recently acquired Edward Preston Side Rebate plane. It's similar to the one shown below which is from a Stanley 98 or 99 (I can never remember which is which) It needs a mortice (blind hole) in the...

What a difference a saw makes.....

What sort of girls do you know?? You've obviously had a bad experience with a black toothed one. How did it ever get that far??

    Tuffsaws bandsaw blades - speechless.

Now I know that everyone here has sung the praise of Tuffsaws blades for a long time and indeed a lot of you use them. This post is for anyone yet to buy one. I took delivery of a new Record BS400 (largely based on the fantastic review elsewhere on this forum courtesy of Random with help from...

    Sourcing joinery hardwood in Kent

Adrian, I've just taken delivery of about £1.5ks worth of Maple, American Black Walnut and Tulipwood from Morgans of Strood. It's my first time using them as a supplier and I visited their yard last week. They have an ENORMOUS stock of hardwoods and a mahoosive great yard. So far I'm extremely...

    Glue Up/Bar Clamp recommendations?

You can do this without clamps by turning the leg and rail assembly upside down and putting it on FLAT floor that you can fix into. Fix some battens down about 20mm away from the ends and then use folding wedges (lots of them) It's a bit crude but I've managed it successfully when I've needed to...

    Paint / Varnish Stripper

+1 for Synstrip. Like Nitromors used to be before it became about as effective as warm milk. I buy mine from here: http://www.autopaintsbrighton.co.uk/sta ... 2598-p.asp

Work holding help for a new turner needed

First a little bit of introduction...... A few months ago I bought one of these.. and one of these all for just under £150 (a bit a bargain methinks). I also got myself a set of Axminster HSS tools and a copy of Keith Rowleys book. Since then I've made one of these... One of these...

    Narex

I've used SDS chisels for chopping out quick and dirty mortices on some huge beams before to take tusked tenons. Trimming joists around chimney breasts I seem to recall. It was all non-visible work and went extremely fast (but extremely non-pretty!!)

    Pane sole Flattening

A piece of 10mm float glass on a slab of 25mm MDF should do it I'd think. Thats what I use on the rare occasion I flatten anything. I used it to flatten my No 7 and it worked fine. By the way, nothing wrong with using silver Rizzlas under a straightedge. More accurate than looking for a line of...
