    More on dust extraction

Folks, just to close the loop, I bought a Bosch m class. Fits festool,no problem, need some adapters for my makita kit. Any ideas on where I could get some? So far so good. Includes some domestic Hoover type accessories that will never get used, but real bugbear is that it doesn't even include...

    More on dust extraction

Folks, thanks for all the comments. The benefit of your experience is really useful. I thought about the mask, it'd probably solve the beard problem but won't stop dust getting on my clothes and coating the surfaces in the workshop, to be churned up later when I move timber, tools etc. So I...

    More on dust extraction

Folks, thanks for responses. Yep beard won't help with seal on face but I don't think shape and size of mask helps much either. Looked at M class vacs was surprised at the difference in price between them and the L class... still don't want anything that would initiate lung problems so will...

    More on dust extraction

Folks apols if this is getting boring, there seems to be a plethora of dust threads at the mo. I am a hobby carpenter, my workshop is brick built garage. I try to do most work with hand tools, but I do use a cross cut saw, jigsaw and router, as well as sanders, when the need arises. Of late I...

    makita ls1018

Have a look at the consumer rights act, you are within the 30 day reject period, and Can gat a full refund. ... Providing saw is not of merchantable quality etc etc., I guess that is why they want makita to look at it. Issue is that you have something your not happy with, and they have your...

    makita ls1018

I have the next one down in the range. Blade runs square at all times. Sliding mechanism is solid and very smooth, I don't have soft start either, and it sort of 'crashes! Into life, certainly doesn't, start the way yours does. Can!t think what sort of things would need to settle down for it to...

What Axminster Toold discount did you get?

I ordered the basic 10in table saw recently. Asked for discount several times, but was told there was no chance. This was the £750 odd unit, bare of sliding table and extensions. I told them I would be watching the web site for reductions in price or special offers, and would be hopping mad if...

    Inguinal Hernia

I had mine done three years ago, same as yours but on the other side. No problems for everyday work, but I am careful lifting heavier things.. too much weight and I feel a bit of a twinge, as though the muscle is trying to tear away from the mesh. Anyway, if it goes like mine did, all will be...

really sorry for starting another table saw thread, but

Folks thanks to those who replied, I appreciate the input. I had a punt round the second user market, but nothing seems to match my requirements exactly... so will take a good look at the Axi and Charnwood in the flesh, so to speak, and make my mind up that way. Thanks again

really sorry for starting another table saw thread, but

thanks fellas, really appreciate your input, and being positive as it is, I think the Axminster machine is probably the one I will go for. Good to know that the 16a thing isn't a major drama. Jdeacom, are the adjustments you mentioned easy to do? I am assuming it is just an iterative process of...

really sorry for starting another table saw thread, but

I'm looking for some recommendations. I am hoping to buy a table saw in the next couple of months. Budget is around £750, so I am hoping I can get something worthwhile for that? Is the budget sensible? I'd want it to be accurate and easy to set up. It will go into and stay in my garage...

    best joint for the job

Thank you C, I had a look at the web site you mentioned, workmanshp is way way beyond anything I could achieve, but lots of ideas banked and yes he is keen on wedged joints, with lots of variations. Inspiring stuff, some of which I will arrempt to repliacate before long.

    best joint for the job

First bench of the pair is nearly complete, just got to fix the top to the legs. The gal I am making these for wanted vertical legs, so that made it a bit easier, I went with this joint: Question, I wasn't planning to, but does anyone think I need to 'fix' the wedge in situ by pegging it from...

    Precise Jigsaw: Festool PS420 EBQ-Plus or Bosch GST160CE ?

Hiya, I used my previous generation Festool jigsaw yesterday to cut 35mm Oak with no drama. Largely straight cuts but also a few 30mm Radius turns, though the curves did need a little care to get right. As C says careful choice of quality blades has a big effect on the result, and yes clamp it...

    kiln dried oak

OK, Thanks Fellas, really appreciate yer input. I've cut out the wormed timber so all should be good. Howevere I will certainly be taking a lot more care choosing boards in future - I think I was concentrating so hard on getting boards without splits that I missed the obvious. Thanks again

    kiln dried oak

Folks, I bought some kiln dried oak boards a month or so ago, and started to plane them to fletten them out today. I noticed that one of the boards has a strip of sap wood with some worm holes in it. I'm sure I can adjust the design to cut out the sap wood, but a few questions.. Should I...

    best joint for the job

Thanks for responses folks, plenty of food for thought. Custard you are right, the term 'knock up' does not represent the work that I know will go into this piece. I originally thought that I might like the rail situated well up under the seat, but on reflection i think I will lower the rail...

    best joint for the job

Folks I plan to knock up a pair of refectory benches like the one shown here. I will splay the legs outward a few degrees so that they are not vertical. I will probably use oak pegs to fix the seat timber into the top edges of the rail and legs. My question is what joint would be strongest to...
