    Veneer for pens?

Something I did as I was given a great pile of cherry veneer and wanted different colour was to cut off a piece just bigger than required and let is soak in some spirit stain because the veneer was so thin it soaked all the way through this enabled me to have various colours by just using a...

    Dead Walnut Tree

As long as the wood is solid there is no reason why you should not use it. Depending on how thick the tree is will depend on how dry it may be that once you start to work with it you may find it still wet in the middle. Walnut can appear to be solid as any rotting that takes place may make...

Not so much metalworking but I did need to sort out my draw that I keep my micrometres in as two of them don't have there own box well the 0-2" did have a metal box mut was falling apart. So rather than have them keep knocking about I decided to make an insert for them. The base is lined with a...

Bowls from rough cut timber cupping

Something worth noting is that even kiln-dried wood when stored outside or in a shed where there is no heating can still take on water only a small amount, then when moved into the house with central heating will dry and move. When I make flatwood items I tend to bring the wood in the house for...

    Home made turning tools

I would suggest buying the correct tools for the job I know that you are working to a very basic budget but unless you have experience of working with metal and knowing how to treat it then look for second-hand tools. Buy as you need or as I did I got a set of Robert Sorby tools which has...

    Blank-cutting jig for bandsaw

I use a stick with holes in it and hold a nail in the centre without pushing it in and a pen/pencil in one of the many holes and use it like a trammel then free hand around the pencil mark. No Holes so that leaves me to decide which way around to use the blank all are sealed around the...

    Spinning Through the Wood Pile

I prefer this one to the last one(nothing wrong with the last one just personal preference) especially the bead detail around the outer top part. Managed a bowl today will post tomorrow when taken some photos

    Yarn Bowl

Nicely done I personally would have liked a slightly thinner wall at the bottom but at the same time it does add weight to it which will stop it lifting up every time the wool is pulled. The finish looks good and you should be proud of that piece.

    Spinning Through the Wood Pile

Very nice Chas, it is surprising how many configurations you can come up with when making these segmented pieces
